No. Jaguar says its production-intent Type 01 electric four-door GT has a solid, glassless tailgate. A ClearSight digital rear-view display in the Panoramic Soundbar uses a 3D Surround Camera to provide the rear view instead of a traditional interior mirror. The design first drew attention in images of Jaguar’s Type 00 concept; it is now part of Jaguar’s October 2026 Type 01 announcement.
Does Jaguar’s new electric car have a rear windshield?
Jaguar’s October 7, 2026 announcement specifies that the Type 01 has a glassless tailgate. That means there is no conventional rear windshield in the tailgate. Jaguar says the car’s ClearSight Rear View Display, integrated into the full-width Panoramic Soundbar, works with a 3D Surround Camera and replaces the traditional interior rear-view mirror. Jaguar’s Type 01 announcement describes the system and the body design.
Jaguar also claims the display offers enhanced low-light visibility compared with a traditional mirror. That is the manufacturer’s claim; independent comparative testing of the Type 01 system’s real-world effectiveness is not established in the available reporting.
What the images and announcements actually establish
| Date | Vehicle or evidence | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| December 2, 2024 | Jaguar Type 00 design-vision concept | Jaguar unveiled a concept with a glassless tailgate and rear-facing cameras concealed behind deployable side ingots. Jaguar said the first production car in its new era would be an electric four-door GT. Jaguar’s concept announcement describes the design. |
| February 7, 2025 | Camouflaged prototype photographs | Autocar reported that photographs of a heavily camouflaged prototype showed no rear window. This was the publication’s observation of prototype images, not a final Jaguar specification. |
| October 7, 2026 | Jaguar Type 01 production-intent electric GT | Jaguar officially described the Type 01 as having a solid, glassless tailgate and named its digital rear-view display and 3D Surround Camera. Jaguar’s Monaco showcase notes that the displayed car is pre-production and specifications may vary. Type 01 announcement and Monaco showcase notice. |
The distinction matters: a concept image can signal a design direction, and a spy-photo report can show what a prototype appears to have, but neither alone confirms a production specification. Jaguar’s Type 01 announcement is the source that makes the glassless tailgate an official production-intent feature.

How the Type 01’s rear-view setup is described
In a conventional car, a rear windshield lets the driver see through the back of the cabin, while an interior mirror reflects that view. Jaguar’s described arrangement removes the rear glass and uses a camera-fed display in the cabin instead. The announcement confirms the display and camera system, but it does not say the Type 01 uses the concept’s exact camera placement behind deployable side ingots.
Jaguar first described those concealed rear-facing cameras for the Type 00 concept in 2024. The Type 01 announcement instead identifies a 3D Surround Camera integrated with the ClearSight Rear View Display. Do not treat the concept’s specific packaging as a confirmed Type 01 detail.

Why the “leaked pictures” framing needs an update
The first widely reported no-rear-window imagery concerned the Type 00 concept and later camouflaged prototype photographs. The Type 01 is no longer only an inference from pictures: Jaguar has publicly named the production-intent car and stated that its tailgate is glassless. The earlier images help explain why the feature attracted attention, but the 2026 announcement is the stronger evidence for the Type 01 specification.
