The Sunlight IBEX began as a Volkswagen Crafter-based 4×4 camper concept, but Sunlight now lists a VW-based production model, the IBEX 604D. The name also covers a separate Ford Transit-based 603D, so the platform and equipment depend on which version you mean.
What was the Sunlight IBEX concept?
Sunlight presented the original IBEX as a 4×4 camper concept built on a Volkswagen Crafter. Its concept page lists a 2.0-litre engine producing 163 PS, an automatic transmission, all-wheel drive and 1.98 m of standing height. Sunlight framed it as an off-road adventure vehicle; that positioning is the manufacturer’s, not an independent assessment of its capability. Sunlight’s IBEX concept page carries the line: “There are vehicles. And then there are companions for the road less traveled.”
What happened to the concept?
Sunlight’s production preview said the VW Crafter-based IBEX would enter series production from August 2026. Sunlight now lists the 604D with specifications and a German recommended price, making it a production-listed model rather than only a concept. Sunlight’s international highlights describe a custom raised roof with an integrated awning, an off-road side step, a transverse double bed and diesel heating. The production preview gives the rear bed dimensions as 200 × 136 cm and says the pull-out refrigerator can be reached from inside or outside. Confirm the equipment and dimensions for the country and configuration you intend to order.
The German listing’s standard tire entry is 235/65 R 16 C. Sunlight’s preview separately describes an available factory off-road package with 18-inch off-road tires; it does not identify a tire model. These are different equipment contexts, not evidence that the German listing’s standard tires are 18-inch.

What is known about its off-road development?
Sunlight says the concept spent months in real-world use, including testing in Iceland with Adventure Crew member Denis Barbas, and that the experience informed its next evolution. Its preview also describes the factory off-road package, raised roof with a partially integrated awning and electric off-road step. These are manufacturer-reported development and equipment details; the reviewed sources do not provide independent off-road testing, reliability data or fuel-economy results.

What should buyers confirm before ordering?
- Ask a local dealer for the exact country-specific price and the equipment included in that configuration. Sunlight says prices outside Germany may vary with currency, VAT, fees and import duties.
- Confirm whether the quoted vehicle includes the optional off-road package and its 18-inch tires, rather than assuming those are standard from the German listing.
- Check dealer inventory and delivery timing directly; Sunlight’s pages do not verify stock or individual delivery dates.
- Compare the running-order mass and optional-equipment allowance with the configuration you plan to use, especially if you expect to add substantial equipment.
