That leaves the lower cabin available for a lounge, kitchen and wet bathroom, but its travel-seat count, sleeping capacity and price depend on the specification and market.
Why does the Sunlight Vanlife have stairs?
The steps make access to the pop-up roof bed part of the cabin’s fixed furniture. Sunlight lists the steps with integrated storage as standard equipment, so the access structure also provides a place to stow items. The arrangement is paired with a heat-insulating wall between the cab and living area, a double dinette with a removable table, and a multifunctional camping table.
In its August 2025 launch report, New Atlas described a layout with the stairs leading to the roof, a convertible rear lounge, a compact galley, wet bathroom, and fridge and storage under the stairs. The report interpreted the arrangement as suited to two travelers who can leave the lounge set up while sleeping above. That is a layout-based assessment, not evidence of owner experience or measured convenience.
A staircase is a defining design choice, not proof of objectively safer or more comfortable access. The available specifications and launch coverage do not establish comparative usability or safety results.

How many people can travel and sleep in it?
Do not treat seats and berths as the same count. Sunlight’s cited specification lists 2+1 permitted seats and 2+1 berths. New Atlas described two cab travel seats and a 2+2 sleeping configuration that includes the convertible lounge. These figures use different descriptions; check the homologated seats and berth specification for the exact market and vehicle before planning for passengers or overnight guests.
How large are the beds?

The rear lounge can also convert into sleeping space, as described by New Atlas. The supplied manufacturer figures do not give a size for that converted lounge bed, so confirm its dimensions and configuration with a dealer.

What are the dimensions and main specifications?
Sunlight lists overall dimensions of 541 x 205 x 281 cm and an interior height of 190 cm. The cited English specification offers Citroën Jumper and Fiat Ducato chassis, each with a 2.2-litre engine rated at 103 kW (140 hp). Chassis and equipment availability can vary by market.
Listed cabin equipment includes a 76-litre fridge/freezer, 100-litre fresh-water tank, 20-litre boiler and 90-litre waste-water tank. The standard heating is diesel Combi 4; Combi 6 electric heating is listed as optional. Confirm the equipment on the particular build rather than assuming every advertised configuration includes the same items.

What does the Sunlight Vanlife cost?
Sunlight’s English model overview displayed a UK starting price of £63,690 when accessed on October 8, 2026. Its German page displayed a €57,999 campaign starting price on that date; the stated promotion applies to qualifying new-vehicle contracts signed from August 1 through October 31, 2026. These are market-specific figures with different terms, not directly interchangeable prices. Check the local offer and what is included before comparing.
New Atlas reported a €58,999 price reference at launch on August 11, 2025. That is historical and should not be used as a current quote.

What should buyers check before choosing this layout?
- Travel seats: Confirm the permitted, homologated seats in the vehicle offered in your country; sleeping berths do not establish passenger capacity.
- Bed arrangement: Ask which beds are included, whether the rear bed is optional, and how the lounge converts if you expect to use it for guests.
- Stair and storage footprint: Check whether the fixed steps and integrated storage suit the way you expect to use the lower cabin. Published specifications do not establish how convenient the stairs are in daily use.
- Actual payload: The maximum gross vehicle weight is 3,500 kg. Sunlight gives a running-order mass range and notes that actual mass varies with equipment and can fall within a stated ±5% tolerance. Ask for the weighed mass of the specific vehicle and calculate remaining payload after options and occupants.
- Local equipment and price: Compare current offers in the same country and verify which listed features are standard or optional on that build.
