The Subaru WRX STI S207 was a Japan-market, STI-developed complete car announced in 2015—not a current new-car launch. Subaru limited production to 400 cars, with orders closing on March 6, 2016. An optional NBR Challenge Package, distinguished by race-related equipment, was limited to 200 of those cars.
What was the WRX STI S207?
Subaru Tecnica International (STI) announced the S207 on October 28, 2015, as a complete car based on the WRX STI. Its Japanese launch was scheduled for December 1, 2015. STI described it as the top of its complete-car lineup at the time. The S207 brought dedicated engine, suspension, interior and exterior changes rather than being only an appearance package. Subaru’s announcement and STI’s model information describe the car and its development.
The name belongs to a specific historical, Japan-market model. The announcement does not establish broad sales outside Japan or current availability as a new car.
How many S207s were made, and when could buyers order one?
Subaru set a total production limit of 400 units. Orders were due by March 6, 2016, according to the October 2015 announcement. That is the stated production cap, not a count of surviving cars or a present-day inventory figure.

What made the S207 mechanically distinct?
Subaru tuned the S207’s EJ20 horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine, equipped with a twin-scroll turbocharger, and stated maximum output of 328 PS. The maker’s official catalog lists maximum torque of 431 Nm for the S207 NBR Challenge Package; the catalog result page does not state a publication date. That torque figure is specifically tied to the catalog’s NBR-package entry. Subaru’s release specifications and its official vehicle catalog provide those figures.
Steering, suspension and tires
- Steering: 11:1 steering gear ratio.
- Front suspension: DampMatic II with adjustable damping.
- Torque distribution: Active Torque Vectoring at the front and rear.
- Tires: 255/35R19.
Brakes
The specification lists Brembo opposed calipers, with six pistons at the front and four at the rear, plus drilled rotors. These are factory specification details, not evidence of a quantified performance gain in independent testing.

What did the NBR Challenge Package add?
The NBR Challenge Package was a trim within the 400-car S207 run, not a separate model with its own independent production run. Subaru limited the package to 200 units. It added a dedicated dry-carbon rear spoiler and an ornament commemorating Subaru’s SP3T-class victory at the 2015 Nürburgring 24-Hour Race. Subaru’s package announcement describes the additions and limit.
What was Subaru trying to achieve?
Subaru said it aimed to create a road-focused STI that was enjoyable across different road conditions and could enhance driver skill. In its announcement, the company called this “the world’s most enjoyable vehicle,” describing that phrase as the S207’s intended concept. That is Subaru’s aspiration, not an independently measured result. The company’s release sets out the wording.

What the specifications do—and do not—tell you
The announcement and catalog establish factory claims about output, torque, chassis hardware, brakes, tires and package equipment. They do not establish an independent road-test result, present-day resale value, surviving production count, current stock, or the import and registration rules in any particular country. Those matters require separate, current evidence for the car and destination involved.
