Cameras near the rearview mirror help detect traffic, lane markings and potential hazards; depending on the vehicle’s year and trim, EyeSight can warn the driver, adjust cruise speed, apply braking or assist with steering. The driver must remain attentive and in control.
What is Subaru EyeSight?
EyeSight is a group of driver-assistance features built around forward-facing cameras. Subaru says its vehicles use two color cameras mounted near the rearview mirror; select models add a third camera to widen the field of view and enhance pedestrian and cyclist detection. Hardware and feature availability vary by model, year and trim, so the EyeSight name alone does not identify which functions a particular car has. Subaru’s EyeSight overview
Depending on equipment, the system can help manage following distance, provide lane warnings or steering assistance, and respond to some collision risks. Those interventions are aids, not guarantees that a collision will be avoided.
What does each EyeSight feature do?
Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering
When cruise control is engaged, Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control can adjust speed to help maintain a selected distance from traffic ahead. Lane Centering can also help steer the vehicle within visible lane markings while cruise control is operating. It is not a stand-alone autonomous driving mode. Subaru’s general Adaptive Cruise Control explainer describes ACC as an enhancement to regular cruise control that senses traffic and adjusts speed to maintain distance. Specific controls and stop-and-go behavior depend on the vehicle; consult its owner’s manual.

Lane Departure and Sway Warning and Lane Departure Prevention
Lane Departure and Sway Warning can alert the driver if the vehicle drifts toward a lane edge or sways. Lane Departure Prevention may add steering assistance when activated. Lane features depend on visible lane markings, and their effectiveness varies with conditions. Pre-Collision Braking
If EyeSight detects a potential forward collision, Pre-Collision Braking can warn the driver and apply the brakes. Subaru describes the system as designed to help prevent a collision or reduce the severity of a frontal impact; it may slow the vehicle or bring it to a stop if necessary. It cannot guarantee that a crash will be prevented.

Pre-Collision Throttle Management
In certain low-speed situations involving a potential forward hazard, Pre-Collision Throttle Management can reduce engine power. The purpose is to give the driver more time to respond and help minimize impact force; it does not replace braking or careful control by the driver.
Automatic Emergency Steering
On equipped vehicles, Automatic Emergency Steering may help steer around an obstruction when braking alone may not be enough. It is conditional, not a routine steering feature: Subaru says it works after Pre-Collision Braking activates and requires Blind-Spot Detection. The 2025 Forester brochure describes steering support below 50 mph when there is enough space to intervene, subject to system conditions and limitations.

How does EyeSight detect and respond to hazards?
- It observes the road ahead. The cameras scan for traffic, potential hazards and, where supported, lane markings. Select models’ third camera broadens the view and enhances pedestrian and cyclist detection.
- It identifies situations relevant to an equipped feature. For example, traffic ahead matters to adaptive cruise control, while visible lane edges matter to lane functions.
- It may warn or assist. Depending on the situation and equipment, EyeSight can issue an alert, adjust cruise speed, assist with steering, reduce throttle or apply braking.
- The driver continues to supervise. Weather, road conditions, vehicle maintenance and system state can affect performance. The system’s limits and exact operation are in the owner’s manual for the specific vehicle.
Which EyeSight features are included on each Subaru?
There is no single feature list that applies to every EyeSight-equipped Subaru. Confirm the model year and trim, then check the vehicle’s official specifications and owner’s manual. Subaru’s 2025 trim comparison lists features for the models covered on that page; it is not a universal specification for all years and vehicles.
For example, Subaru lists EyeSight as standard across all 2026 WRX trims, but Automatic Emergency Steering as standard only on the Limited, GT and tS trims. 2026 WRX features and technology

When checking a particular car, verify the feature itself rather than relying on the EyeSight label. For Automatic Emergency Steering, also confirm any required companion equipment, such as Blind-Spot Detection.

- EyeSight may not operate optimally in every driving condition. Weather, road conditions, maintenance and other factors can affect effectiveness.
- Lane-related functions rely on visible lane markings.
- Steering assistance is conditional on the applicable feature being equipped and active; emergency steering also depends on system state, speed, available space and other limitations.
- Feature availability and controls can differ by model year and trim. Use the matching owner’s manual for detailed operating instructions and restrictions.
Subaru’s 2025 Forester brochure states: “The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving.” That principle applies when using EyeSight: keep watching the road, be ready to steer and brake, and do not treat assistance as autonomous control.
