STREEK: Japanese Double-Decker E-Cargo Trike Was Planned for a Faster US Version

The STREEK uses a vertical modular cargo layout on a tilting electric trike. A US adaptation was planned with higher assisted speed, but its availability and final specifications remain unconfirmed.

The STREEK is a Japanese-designed electric cargo trike built to stack modular cargo on two levels instead of stretching a conventional cargo bike’s footprint. In October 2024, Vvolt said it was working with Envision on a US-market adaptation; reporting at the time described that prototype with assistance up to 28 mph, compared with 15 mph for the Japanese model. Those were prototype-era figures, not independently tested or confirmed production specifications.

What makes the STREEK different?

Its defining feature is a tall, loop-shaped frame with cargo platforms arranged vertically. The layout is meant to increase carrying capacity without adding the length or width of the vehicle, a practical aim for narrow urban streets and limited parking space. Depending on the modular setup, cargo can occupy one or two levels.

The reported design combines an aluminum frame, tilting front wheels with independent leaf-spring suspension, a mid-drive motor, an internally geared rear hub and hydraulic disc brakes. Vvolt described the cargo modules as customizable and the tilting suspension as using carbon fiber. These features distinguish the STREEK from a conventional longtail cargo bike, but the available reports do not provide a complete final component list.

How was the planned US version different?

New Atlas’s November 4, 2024 report compared the Japanese model with a US prototype then being developed with Vvolt. Its figures describe the reported versions at that time, not a verified production model.

Drivetrain Not stated in the cited reporting. Frame described as optimized for a belt drive and a wider-range hub; final component models were not stated.
Cargo configuration Modular, multi-level cargo layout. Modular cargo configuration; Vvolt described the modules as customizable.
Availability Current sales status not established by the cited sources. Vvolt announced a prototype and a planned crowdfunding campaign; whether it launched or led to sales is not established by the cited sources.

The 28 mph figure was presented as a planned US-version assisted speed, and the 15 mph figure as the Japanese model’s assisted speed. New Atlas connected the faster target to taking advantage of different US rules, but did not provide a legal analysis. The reported numbers should not be read as a general explanation of e-bike law or as a guarantee of a particular classification in every US jurisdiction.

What was known about the cargo trike’s hardware?

The mid-drive layout and internally geared rear hub were part of the reported concept, while the front wheels were described as tilting independently on leaf-spring suspension. The tilting arrangement is intended to let the trike lean through turns rather than behave like a rigid, non-leaning three-wheeler. Vvolt’s announcement highlighted the suspension and flexible cargo space, but its description was promotional rather than an independent assessment of handling.

Several details essential to judging real-world practicality had not been announced in the 2024 reporting: battery range, vehicle weight and a number of component makes and models. Without those figures, a buyer cannot reliably assess how far a loaded STREEK might travel, how easy it would be to maneuver when unpowered, or how its parts compare with other cargo trikes.

Who was developing the US adaptation, and what was the plan?

Envision developed the Japanese design, and Vvolt announced a partnership to adapt it for the US market. Vvolt’s October 31, 2024 announcement said the project was at the prototype stage and targeted a crowdfunding campaign for spring 2025. New Atlas repeated that plan on November 4, 2024. The cited announcements do not confirm whether the campaign happened, whether the prototype’s specifications changed, or whether the trike is now available.

In company statements reproduced by Electrek on November 4, 2024, Envision president Harry Uden described the partnership as a way to bring the design to North America. Vvolt founder and CEO Kyle Ranson called the concept a distinctive option for urban mobility. Those remarks explain the companies’ ambitions, but they are promotional statements, not evidence of completed US deliveries or independently established performance.

What can a prospective buyer conclude?

The STREEK’s unusual proposition is clear: a tilting electric trike that uses a vertical modular cargo area to carry more without a longer or wider layout. The US adaptation was reported as faster and more accommodating of a broader range of rider heights than the Japanese version. But the available information dates to October and November 2024 and describes a prototype and a proposed crowdfunding timetable. It does not establish a final specification sheet, a completed campaign, or present-day availability.
