A Chevrolet Corvette C7 Grand Sport reported stolen in December 2020 was found submerged in a Georgia river years later. The clue that connected it to its owner’s theft announcement was still visible on the windshield: an Instagram handle. The discovery answers where the car was found, but reporting published October 5, 2026, does not identify who stole it or explain how it entered the river.
How was the stolen Corvette identified?
Diver Jeremy Sides found the Corvette underwater in a Georgia river and posted the discovery on Instagram. Sides is identified in reporting as president of Rapid Compassion Collective, a nonprofit that conducts underwater searches for missing people and vehicles.
Viewers noticed an Instagram handle still visible on the windshield. They traced it to the owner’s earlier theft announcement, dated December 11, 2020, and connected the submerged car to the reported theft. The owner is not named in the available reports.
What is known about the Corvette?
Reporting describes the recovered car as a C7 Corvette Grand Sport. At the model level, the Grand Sport combines wider bodywork and Brembo brakes with a 460-horsepower LT1 V8. Those are trim-level specifications; the reports do not say that the recovered car’s VIN was checked to verify its particular equipment.
#1 Best Overall
- Has steerable wheels. Brand new box. Rubber tires. Made of diecast with some plastic parts. Detailed interior, exterior, engine compartment. Dimensions approximately L-8,W-3,H-2.5 inches.
Images described in the coverage showed the wrap largely intact and visible body panels apparently undamaged. That is an observation about the exterior, not evidence that the car is mechanically sound or safe to drive. No teardown, mechanical inspection, or insurance or salvage decision for this specific Corvette is reported.
Why was the Corvette in the river?
The available reports do not establish how or why the car ended up there. A hurried dump or an attempt to hide evidence are possibilities mentioned in coverage, not confirmed explanations. The reporting also does not identify a suspect, report an arrest, or say that the original theft has been resolved.

What the recovery does—and does not—tell us
The windshield handle supplied a link between a submerged car and a years-old theft announcement. The car’s relatively preserved appearance in the images makes the discovery striking, but it cannot reveal the condition of its submerged systems. Without an inspection report, claims about the extent of internal damage would be speculation. The car has been located; the circumstances of its theft and its route into the river remain unexplained in the available reporting.
AOL’s October 5, 2026 report provides the detailed account and notes the unresolved questions. CorvetteBlogger’s October 5 listing also reports the recovery.
