It is important to distinguish that version from Stockman Products’ current Rover range: Escape, Intrepid and Ultra. The latest manufacturer specifications give buyers the current model weights and equipment, while New Atlas’s February 2025 report documents what changed on the Rover 02.
What is the Stockman Rover 02?
The Rover 02 is Stockman Products’ compact, teardrop-style camper trailer. New Atlas described the updated Rover 02 as an 18-foot (5.5 m) trailer. Stockman’s current product page now presents three Rover models—Escape, Intrepid and Ultra—so the 2025 Rover 02 feature should not be treated as a complete specification sheet for every current build. New Atlas’s February 2025 report covers the update; Stockman’s current Rover page is the reference for today’s listed models and equipment.
What changed in the Rover 02 update?
New Atlas reported a redesigned rear galley with a full-height hatch and a wider work surface. Separate swing-out stations hold the sink and BBQ, and the reported Swift grill/griddle could be configured as a two-burner stove. The article also noted an optional wine rack and Redarc electrical controls in the version it covered.
Other details in that 2025 configuration included double-sealed side doors, a queen inner-spring mattress and new storage cupboards. Optional comfort equipment included a television, air conditioning and diesel heating. Stockman replaced the earlier shower tent and awning with Darche products, according to the report. These are details of the version New Atlas covered, not a guarantee that every item is standard on current models.

How do the current Escape, Intrepid and Ultra compare?
Stockman’s current page distinguishes the Escape as an on-road model for sealed and maintained gravel roads. Intrepid and Ultra use the XT off-road platform with Cruisemaster coil independent suspension. The listed weight ratings and key equipment differ by model:
| Model | Platform and stated use | Tare | ATM | Ball weight | Battery and solar | Shower and other listed equipment |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Escape | On-road; sealed and maintained gravel roads | 1,160 kg | 1,800 kg | 120 kg | 120Ah lithium battery; 100W roof solar | Not stated in the cited current specifications for this comparison |
| Intrepid | XT off-road platform; Cruisemaster coil independent suspension | 1,260 kg | 1,950 kg | 120 kg | 120Ah lithium battery; 100W roof solar | Joolca instant-gas shower system; 130L Bushman upright fridge; Darche 180-degree awning |

All figures and equipment distinctions in the table are from Stockman’s current product page, accessed October 8, 2026. Stockman warns that options can change specifications and says final specifications are confirmed in the buyer’s build. Tare is the listed trailer weight; ATM is the maximum permitted loaded trailer mass. The difference between ATM and tare is not a promise of usable payload, because final equipment and configuration affect the actual build.

Can your SUV or other tow vehicle tow a Rover?
Not from the model name or tare figure alone. Stockman specifically advises checking both the tow vehicle’s braked towing rating and its towball limit against the chosen Rover model. The listed ball weights—120 kg for Escape and Intrepid, 140 kg for Ultra—are relevant to the towball check, but options may alter final specifications. Confirm the camper’s final build figures and compare them with the ratings for your exact vehicle before deciding it is suitable.
How do the Intrepid and Ultra differ?
Both are listed on the XT off-road platform, and both include the 130L Bushman upright fridge and Darche 180-degree awning. The Intrepid has a 120Ah lithium battery with 100W roof solar and a Joolca instant-gas shower system. The Ultra increases the listed battery capacity to 300Ah, adds 220W of portable solar alongside its 100W roof panel, and uses a diesel hot-water heater with mixer tap and snap-in shower rose. It also has a higher listed tare and ball weight than the Intrepid, while both have a 1,950 kg ATM.

What did the Rover 02 cost, and did it win an award?
New Atlas reported February 2025 starting prices of AU$59,990 for the Intrepid and AU$74,990 for the Ultra. Those are historical prices reported in that article, not confirmed current prices. Stockman’s current page offers a build-and-price route but does not state a current price in the available product information; buyers should request a quote for the desired configuration.
New Atlas reported that the Rover 02 reached the finals of the 2024 Camper Trailer of the Year Awards but did not win. The article quoted Camper Australia magazine’s judges praising its build, fit-out, kitchen layout and interior comfort, while also identifying payload as a criticism in the judging context. The judges’ collective wording was: “The build is impressive and the fit-out top-notch, and with the bulk of the campers’ labor bill coming from offshore, it’s reasonably priced for what is an excellent camper. It is stylish and well thought out with the kitchen layout and interior comfort as good as it gets with a teardrop-style camper.”
