FCA US warned owners not to drive vehicles with an open, unrepaired Takata airbag recall, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) alert dated February 11, 2026. The roughly 225,000 figure refers to unrepaired FCA vehicles in the United States—not 225,000 newly recalled vehicles. If your vehicle has an open Takata recall, stop driving it until the airbag repair is complete. Check by VIN or license plate, then contact a dealer or FCA/Mopar to arrange the free repair.
How to check whether your vehicle has an open recall
-
Look up the vehicle by VIN or license plate using NHTSA’s recall lookup. You can also enter the VIN in Mopar’s recall checker.
-
Check whether the result shows an unrepaired Takata airbag recall. A make and model-year match is not enough to confirm that a specific vehicle has an open recall; verify its status by VIN.
-
If the recall is open, do not drive the vehicle. Call a local dealer or FCA/Mopar at 833-585-0144 to arrange the repair.

Which vehicles are listed in the alerts?
The NHTSA and Mopar lists are not identical, so neither should be treated as a complete substitute for checking a specific vehicle. NHTSA’s February 11, 2026, alert lists these makes and model years as having open Takata recalls subject to the warning:
- 2003–2010 Dodge Ram
- 2004–2009 Dodge Durango
- 2005–2011 Dodge Dakota
- 2005–2008 Dodge Magnum
- 2006–2015 Dodge Charger
- 2007–2009 Chrysler Aspen
- 2008–2014 Dodge Challenger
- 2005–2015 Chrysler 300
- 2007–2016 Jeep Wrangler
- 2006–2009 Mitsubishi Raider
Mopar’s current U.S.-market advisory gives a different, more specific list of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicle families with unrepaired recalled Takata airbags:
- Chrysler: Crossfire (2007–2008), Aspen (2007–2009), 300 (2005–2015)
- Dodge: Sprinter (2007–2009), Challenger (2008–2014), Magnum (2005–2008), Dakota (2005–2012), Durango (2004–2009), Charger (2006–2015)
- Jeep: Wrangler (2007–2016)
- Ram: Ram 1500 (2003–2009), Ram 2500 (2004–2009), Ram 3500 (2004–2010), Ram 4500/5500 (2008–2010)
These lists differ in their model-year ranges and coverage. Use the VIN lookup to establish whether your particular vehicle has an open recall; do not assume a vehicle is clear or affected solely because its model appears on one list.

Is the repair free, and can the vehicle be towed?
NHTSA and Mopar say the recall repair is free. Contact a dealer or FCA/Mopar at 833-585-0144 to schedule the replacement. Mopar says owners can ask customer care or a dealer about free towing, mobile repair, and possible alternate transportation. Availability depends on the circumstances and location, so confirm what is offered for your vehicle before making arrangements.
Why the warning is urgent
Takata inflators can deteriorate after long exposure to high temperatures and humidity. NHTSA says the propellant may then burn too quickly, creating excess pressure; in extreme cases, the inflator can rupture and send metal fragments toward people in the vehicle. A crash does not have to be severe for an airbag to deploy.
The warning concerns a serious risk, but it does not mean every Takata airbag will fail. The recall repair is the way to address the defective inflator in an affected vehicle. NHTSA reported 28 confirmed U.S. deaths linked to exploding defective Takata airbags and at least 400 U.S. injuries reportedly associated with exploding inflators. FCA US also reported that more than 6.6 million FCA inflators had been replaced to date. The agency said more than 67 million Takata airbags had been recalled in the United States.
