De Tomaso showed a production-specification P72 in May 2025, then described four internal development cars in November. Its 2026 filing said a group-wide 2025 delivery target was missed and set a target for first-batch deliveries by the end of 2026. Those updates mark progress toward customer cars, not confirmation that P72s have reached customers.
Where the P72 stands in the production process
The P72 was unveiled as a concept at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed. On May 14, 2025, De Tomaso presented what it called the production-specification car. The company explicitly said that car was an internal unit, outside the 72 customer allocations, and that each customer car would be individually commissioned. A production-specification reveal shows the intended production configuration; it is not the same as a customer car being built or delivered. De Tomaso’s May 2025 announcement forecast custodian deliveries beginning in late 2025, but that forecast was later overtaken by the company’s subsequent disclosures.
In its November 17, 2025 update, De Tomaso called DT001 its definitive development vehicle and said DT002, DT003 and DT004 were internal fleet cars that incorporated learning from DT001 testing. The company said DT005, the first customer-level P72, was still ahead. That is evidence of an active development and assembly process, but the update did not announce a customer delivery. Read the November 2025 production update.
In its 2026 filing, parent company OIO Group said its target of delivering 36 vehicles across the group in 2025 had not been met by December 31, 2025. It later set a target for first-batch deliveries by the end of 2026. The 36-vehicle figure is a group-wide target, not a P72 production or delivery count; the filing does not establish a complete count of P72 customer deliveries. See OIO Group’s 2026 Form 20-F.

What the production-specification P72 is
De Tomaso positions the P72 as a modern interpretation of its design heritage, drawing inspiration from the 1965 P70, which the company describes as a collaboration between Alejandro De Tomaso and Carroll Shelby. The 2025 announcement framed the car around analogue driving rather than a screen-led cabin.
The 2026 filing describes the P72 as a two-seat supercar with a bespoke 5.0-litre supercharged V8 and six-speed manual transmission. Production is limited to 72 cars worldwide; the filing says all units had been allocated with deposits received. That is a statement about allocations, not proof that those cars have been built or delivered.

Published specifications and equipment
In its May 2025 production announcement, De Tomaso specified a hand-assembled 5.0-litre supercharged V8 developed for the P platform, with bespoke forged internals and a De Tomaso supercharger. The company quoted 700 hp and 820 Nm, short gear ratios and a six-speed manual. It also described a clean-sheet carbon-fibre chassis, a one-piece carbon-fibre monocoque without bonded sections, push-rod suspension and three-way manually adjustable damping.
The same announcement describes a full-carbon-fibre body, with heritage-inspired paint or a visual-carbon exterior as possible treatments. Inside, it lists analogue dials, bespoke switchgear, an exposed linkage shifter, hand-stitched leather and milled aluminium components. De Tomaso says the cockpit has no screens or infotainment; it includes a discreet phone holder, with no digital connection to the car.

One specification detail is inconsistent
The torque figure depends on which official source you consult: the dated May 2025 production announcement gives 820 Nm, while De Tomaso’s current P72 homepage lists 800 Nm. Both pages state 700 hp. The homepage also lists a 1,500 kg weight, double-wishbone suspension, three-way manual damping and 45 mm front and rear vehicle lift. Since De Tomaso’s pages disagree on torque, neither figure should be presented as a reconciled final specification without further confirmation. Check the current P72 specification on De Tomaso’s homepage.

The available milestones show how the project has moved from a design reveal toward development and customer-level builds. De Tomaso’s May 2025 announcement supplies the production-specification details; its November update identifies internal fleet cars and the first customer-level car still ahead.
| Milestone | What De Tomaso reported | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| 2019 concept | Concept unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. | The P72 design was publicly revealed; this was not a production or delivery milestone. |
| May 14, 2025 production-specification reveal | Production-intent configuration shown in an internal car outside the 72 customer allocations. | The company had presented its intended specification, not delivered a customer car. |
| November 17, 2025 development update | DT001 described as the definitive development vehicle; DT002–DT004 as internal fleet cars; DT005 identified as the first customer-level car still ahead. | Internal development vehicles were progressing, while the first customer-level car had not yet been announced as complete. |
| 2026 filing | Group-wide 2025 target of 36 vehicle deliveries missed; first-batch deliveries targeted by end-2026. | A company delivery target, not confirmation of P72 deliveries or a P72-only count. |
What is—and is not—confirmed about customer deliveries
The clearest status is that De Tomaso had announced internal development vehicles and a future first customer-level car, while OIO Group later reported that its group-wide 2025 delivery target had been missed and set an end-2026 target for first-batch deliveries. The cited disclosures do not provide a complete P72 customer-delivery total as of October 8, 2026. Accordingly, it would be inaccurate to describe the car as newly entering pre-production on that date, or to claim that customer deliveries have been confirmed from these sources.
