The Stability 60 SWATH was described in 2008 reports as a yacht project built around a twin-hull form intended to reduce wave-driven motion, with variable draft and shallow-water operation among its stated ambitions. It is best treated as a reported design, not a confirmed production yacht: its build and present availability are unresolved, and a 2026 page using the same name describes a 60-metre concept that conflicts with the 2008 coverage of a 60-foot craft.
What is a SWATH yacht?
SWATH means Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull. Instead of placing most buoyant volume at the waterline, the design puts much of it in submerged hulls connected to the vessel’s main structure by narrow struts. With less hull area at the surface, passing waves are intended to lift and move the vessel less.
That geometry can support a calmer platform, but it does not make a yacht motionless or guarantee comfort in every sea state. SWATH is a hull-form approach with engineering trade-offs, not a comfort rating.
What did reports say the Stability 60 was designed to do?
In September 2008, Riviera reported that Stability Yachts had developed the SWATH 60 and described a ballasting system intended to vary draft to suit operating needs. Shallow-water operation or beaching, alongside stability in waves, were presented as design aims—not independently verified capabilities.

A February 2008 New Atlas report described a private-yacht project with a changeable operating arrangement, shallow draft, accessibility features, redundant engine systems and joystick-controlled jet drives. Those are period descriptions of the project, not proof of a completed vessel or of performance in service.
What speed and fuel economy were claimed?
New Atlas reported the following figures in 2008. They should be read as historical claims from that article: no independent test report or sufficiently detailed operating conditions were located to reproduce them.

What are the engineering trade-offs?
A SWATH configuration’s potential motion benefits depend on the whole vessel’s design. A 2023 peer-reviewed paper in Brodogradnja / Shipbuilding discusses stability considerations for smaller SWATH craft, including waterplane area, hull volume or displacement, and vertical centre of gravity. It examines a scale model for a 32-metre motor-yacht design; that is a separate research case, not a Stability 60 specification.
- Stability needs validation: the paper notes that static stability can itself be a design criterion for small SWATH craft; the hull form alone does not establish safe or suitable performance.
- Weight and payload matter: displacement and vertical centre of gravity affect the stability design, so payload and weight distribution cannot be treated as incidental.
- Operational details need scrutiny: draft and ballast arrangements, maintenance access and the mission profile all matter when assessing whether the design’s claimed benefits are practical.
The available sources do not provide a reliable like-for-like comparison between the Stability 60 and a conventional monohull or catamaran. Its practical advantage over those forms therefore cannot be quantified from the reported claims.

Was the Stability 60 built, and can it be bought?
The available reporting does not establish whether the yacht was completed, remains operational, or is offered by an active builder or broker. The 2008 reports describe a project, while a 2026 page using the exact title describes a 60-metre concept; that scale conflicts with the 60-foot craft described in 2008. The discrepancy is unresolved, so the two descriptions should not be combined into one settled specification.
There is no basis here for treating the Stability 60 as a currently available production yacht or for asserting a sale listing. A buyer would need current confirmation from primary builder records, a vessel registry or a broker before relying on claims about completion, ownership or availability.
