Car and Driver reported in January 2025 that a camouflaged 2025 Tesla Model Y was testing on public roads in Europe. The disguised photos appeared to show updated headlights and thinner taillights, but they did not reveal the full design. Tesla has since launched the redesigned Model Y in Europe, so the early images are best read as a glimpse of a car that has since reached production—not as a complete record of its final features.
What the 2025 spy photos appeared to show
In its January 2, 2025 report, Car and Driver described a camouflaged Model Y being tested on public roads in Europe. The outlet identified it as the refreshed Model Y, widely nicknamed “Juniper.”
- Headlights: They appeared updated in the disguised images.
- Taillights: They appeared thinner than those on the outgoing vehicle.
- Bumpers: Camouflage obscured them, so the photos did not establish their final appearance.
Those were visual observations, not a confirmed feature list. Car and Driver expected broader changes to follow the earlier Model 3 refresh, but that was a contemporary prediction rather than confirmation of what the prototype contained.
How the production Model Y differs from what the photos could confirm
Tesla’s UK product page, last updated April 13, 2026, describes the redesigned New Model Y that has since launched and is available. Tesla says Giga Berlin produces the vehicle for Europe; that production statement and the specifications below are specific to the UK/Europe-oriented page, not a claim about every market. Tesla’s New Model Y page provides the later production-vehicle description.

Exterior and cabin changes
Tesla lists a cross-car front light bar, redesigned rear light bar and tailgate, revised fascia, and aerodynamic changes. Inside, the company describes a redesigned interior with an 8-inch second-row screen, ventilated front seats, and powered second-row recline. These are Tesla’s descriptions of the launched vehicle; the earlier camouflaged photos did not confirm each feature.
Range, acceleration, and noise claims
Tesla says the refreshed Model Y has 5% more range with the same battery energy than earlier Model Y vehicles. It also reports reductions of 22% in road noise, 20% in impact noise, and 20% in wind noise. These are manufacturer-reported comparisons, not independent test results established by the cited sources.

- Hot Wheels Tesla Model Y, HW Green Speed 1/10 [Gray] 37/250
For the Premium Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive trim with 19-inch wheels, Tesla lists 378 miles of estimated range under WLTP and 5.4 seconds from 0 to 60 mph. The range figure is for that trim and test standard; Tesla cautions that actual range varies with conditions. Do not treat the WLTP estimate as a universal real-world range figure.

The January 2025 images documented a disguised vehicle on European public roads and offered limited clues about its lighting. Tesla’s later page establishes that a redesigned Model Y launched, and supplies the manufacturer’s current description of its features. It does not prove that every final production detail was visible in those images. The early report’s expectation of a spring arrival is historical, not a current launch update.
