Suzuki’s September 2026 U.S. announcement identifies its 2027 production crossover as the GSX-S1000GX+; it does not say that bike is the photographed prototype or that it was ever called the GSX-S1000T. Nor do the available sources establish that Suzuki’s crossover beats or replaces Kawasaki’s Versys 1000.
What the spy photos showed—and what they did not prove
Motorbike Magazine’s July 13, 2023 report credited the spy photographs to Motorrad reader Klaus Bagdahn. The publication interpreted the concealed motorcycles as a possible high-performance, road-focused crossover derived from the GSX-S1000. It described an apparently high handlebar, a 17-inch front wheel and a 1000cc four-cylinder engine, but said the identity was unofficial and Suzuki had not confirmed either the GSX-S1000T name or a 2024 launch plan. The report also gave a suspected seat height of 825 mm and a fully fueled weight of 226 kg. Those were figures reported for the rumored prototype, not official Suzuki specifications for a GSX-S1000T. Suspension travel was not established. The report’s prototype details
A Japanese roundup published July 12, 2023 likewise treated the machine as a GSX-S1000-derived prototype, comparing the rumored concept with the Kawasaki Versys 1000 and Yamaha Tracer 9. What Suzuki actually announced
In a U.S. announcement dated September 15, 2026, Suzuki listed the 2027 GSX-S1000GX+ as its first crossover motorcycle. Suzuki says it bridges sport touring and adventure riding, with longer suspension travel, increased ground clearance, Suzuki Advanced Electronic Suspension (SAES) and Road Adaptive Stabilization (SRAS). Suzuki’s announcement does not identify the GX+ as the motorcycle in Bagdahn’s photographs. The sound conclusion is narrower: the GX+ is Suzuki’s officially named current production crossover in the cited U.S. announcement, while the GSX-S1000T remains an unconfirmed label from the earlier spy coverage.
GX+ versus GT+: crossover or sport-tourer?
Suzuki’s 2027 lineup also includes the GSX-S1000GT+, which the company positions as a sport-tourer. The two official descriptions suggest different priorities rather than a measured performance contest:

Suzuki describes the GX+ as a machine that “bridges the gap between sport touring and adventure riding, offering a unique blend of performance, versatility, and comfort as Suzuki’s first Crossover motorcycle.” That is the manufacturer’s positioning, not an independent comparative test.

That phrase was competitive framing around the speculative 2023 spy story, not a demonstrated verdict. The available sources do not provide a same-year, same-market comparison of the Suzuki and Kawasaki, independent ride-test results, or matching specifications sufficient to establish that one outperforms or replaces the other.

A meaningful comparison would need to align model years and markets, then assess engine and chassis specifications, suspension and ground clearance, standard electronics, touring equipment, price and independent ride impressions. Without that evidence, “Versys 1000 killer” should be read as a question raised by the spy story—not a proven result.
