Another 60 went to xAI, Neuralink and The Boring Company. Together, those Musk-linked companies accounted for about 18.9% of the quarter’s reported registrations. The figures raise questions about how much demand came from buyers outside Elon Musk’s corporate network, but they do not establish improper sales reporting or explain why each company bought its vehicles.
How many Cybertrucks went to Musk-linked companies?
The Los Angeles Times, citing S&P Global Mobility figures reported by Bloomberg, said SpaceX was attributed 1,279 U.S. Cybertruck registrations in Q4 2025. The same report attributed 60 more registrations to xAI, Neuralink and The Boring Company. Against 7,071 total U.S. registrations reported for the quarter, the combined 1,339 registrations equal about 18.9%.
These are registrations, not Tesla-reported deliveries. They cover the United States in one quarter; they do not show how many vehicles the companies bought over the full year or how many Cybertrucks Tesla sold to unrelated customers in that period. The Los Angeles Times report also says it sought comment from Tesla and received no reply.
Were Cybertruck sales falling at the same time?
Yes, according to market estimates cited by the same newspaper. Cox Automotive’s Kelley Blue Book estimated 20,237 U.S. Cybertruck sales in 2025, down 48.1% from 38,965 in 2024. It estimated 3,519 sales in Q1 2026, down 45.1% from Q1 2025. These are third-party sales estimates, not the registration count above and not figures Tesla disclosed as model-specific deliveries.
#1 Best Overall
The comparison gives context for the related-company registrations: a meaningful share of reported Q4 registrations was attributed to Musk-linked firms while annual U.S. Cybertruck sales estimates were sharply lower than the prior year. It does not, by itself, show that the registrations caused or concealed the decline.
What do the $131 million and $143.3 million figures mean?
They describe different things and should not be treated as a vehicle count for Q4.

- Hot Wheels 2022 Tesla Cybertruck
| Figure | What it measures | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| $131 million | SpaceX’s reported spending on Tesla Cybertrucks during 2025, at suggested retail prices, according to its IPO filing as reported by Reuters in 2026. | It is a full-year spending figure, not the number of trucks registered in Q4. Dividing it by the Cybertruck’s reported $69,990 base price would not produce a reliable exact count: configurations and prices can differ, and the spending figure is stated at suggested retail prices. |
| Approximately $143.3 million | Tesla’s April 30, 2026 amendment to its 2025 annual report disclosed 2025 revenue from SpaceX, primarily from vehicle sales. Tesla said sales were at rates generally available to unaffiliated third parties under the same or similar circumstances. | The filing does not identify Cybertruck by model, so this is not a Cybertruck-specific revenue figure or a count of trucks sold. |
Reuters’ account of the SpaceX filing reports the $131 million Cybertruck spending figure; its report concerns a different disclosure from Tesla’s related-party revenue figure. The Tesla annual-report amendment provides the revenue and transaction-terms disclosure.
What do Tesla’s broader financial results add?
Tesla’s 2025 Form 10-K reported that company-wide automotive sales revenue fell $6.66 billion, or 9%, in 2025. It also said cash deliveries declined about 8%, with a lower average selling price contributing to the revenue decrease. Those figures describe Tesla’s automotive business overall; they do not independently establish a Cybertruck-specific trend or explain the SpaceX registrations. Tesla’s 2025 filing is the primary source for that company-wide context.

Do these figures prove Musk’s companies propped up Cybertruck sales?
No. They show that Musk-linked companies were attributed a notable share of U.S. Cybertruck registrations in Q4 2025 and that SpaceX disclosed substantial full-year Cybertruck spending. They also make it reasonable to ask how much demand came from buyers outside Musk’s corporate network. But the available figures do not establish the motivation for each purchase, the complete share of 2025 Cybertruck sales made to related companies, or the exact number of vehicles represented by SpaceX’s annual spending.
Nor do the disclosures establish that Tesla improperly recognized revenue, violated a reporting rule, or that Musk intended to mislead investors. Tesla’s filing describes the broader SpaceX vehicle sales as being made at rates generally available to unaffiliated third parties in comparable circumstances; that statement is relevant context, but it does not identify Cybertruck transactions individually.
