Spacecamper’s Bike is a tent-based camper kit built around a Riese & Müller cargo e-bike—not an enclosed motorhome. New Atlas reported in February 2025 that the production setup used the Load4 75, with a kit option also reported for the older Load 75. Its folding lounger becomes a 195 × 56 cm sleeping platform, while the tent, storage and work surface turn the bike into a compact campsite.
What the Spacecamper Bike is—and what it is not
Spacecamper combines a front cargo box and camping equipment with a Riese & Müller Load4 75 electric cargo bike. The result is a bicycle that can carry camping gear and provide a sheltered place to sit or sleep when pitched. It is not a self-contained, hard-sided motorhome, and the tent and loaded cargo box make it bulkier and more conspicuous than an ordinary bike.
New Atlas reported the setup on February 4, 2025, and described Spacecamper cofounder Markus Riese as also a cofounding partner of Riese & Müller. New Atlas’s report is the source for the product details and historical figures below.
How the camper is configured
Cargo box and convertible lounger
The front cargo box has storage below and a multifunctional platform above. Its folding lounger works as a seat and unfolds into a single sleeping platform measuring 195 × 56 cm (77 × 22 in), according to New Atlas. A folding worktop can be used as a table for working or eating; when closed, it can also serve as a lockable lid for the cargo box.

Tent and campsite setup
A tent pitches over and around the bike. New Atlas describes two side openings, vents and a tarp that reaches the ground, as well as space for camping gear and supplies. The article also reports an optional inflatable sleeping pad that attaches to the lounger with Velcro; it does not establish that ordinary third-party pads will fit the platform.
Buying one: the reported options and prices
New Atlas reported two purchase routes in February 2025: a complete bike-and-camper setup and a kit for a compatible bike. These are historical reported prices, not confirmation of current pricing, production status or availability.

At the time of that report, installation was offered at Spacecamper’s Darmstadt headquarters, while installation through select retailers was still being pursued. Present-day price, sales territory, stock and installer access are not established by that February 2025 report. Confirm compatibility with the exact bike configuration and current installation arrangements with Spacecamper before buying.
Range and speed: treat the figures as configuration-specific
New Atlas reported Spacecamper’s estimates of about 80 km (50 miles) with one battery and 160 km (100 miles) with two batteries on flat roads. The figures were attributed to the company’s internal camper testing; they are not independent test results or guaranteed range. Actual range can vary with conditions and configuration, and the report does not supply a current battery specification.

The report described Load4 75 configurations with maximum speeds of 25 km/h and 45 km/h. It noted age and licensing requirements for the faster variant, but the applicable rules depend on where the bike is used. Check current official rules for the relevant jurisdiction and confirm which speed class is being offered; the 2025 report does not settle either point.

The Spacecamper approach integrates a tent, bed, storage and table into the cargo bike rather than relying on a separate trailer. That may suit someone who wants the Load’s everyday cargo-bike function when not camping and a ready-made campsite arrangement when stopping. It is not a like-for-like substitute for every bike camper: the tent-top, loaded configuration is visibly bulky, and New Atlas does not present it as a carefully balanced bikepacking rig.

- Cost and setup: The reported February 2025 prices and installation path may have changed, so confirm them directly before treating the kit as a current purchase option.
- Range and road rules: Battery count affects the company’s reported estimates, while speed-class requirements depend on local law.
New Atlas did not provide an independent comparative test against competing bike campers or trailers. The available figures therefore support a description of the product, not a verified ranking for comfort, efficiency or value.
