The Souo S2000 is a gasoline-powered touring motorcycle, not an electric bike. Its appeal in discussions of electric-motorcycle range is the contrast: highway riding can cut the range of some electric models, while a gasoline bike can refuel at a conventional station. That does not make the S2000 better for every rider, and the available figures are not from a controlled comparison. European buyers should also note that the previously announced rewaco distribution plan has been withdrawn.
What the Souo S2000 is—and what it is not
SOUO is associated with Great Wall Motor (GWM). GWM’s official brand page describes Great Wall Soul Technology as a GWM subsidiary involved in developing, producing, selling and servicing SOUO motorcycles: SOUO’s official brand page.
The S2000 uses a reported 2-liter, 154-horsepower, eight-cylinder gasoline engine paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, according to IEEE Spectrum’s 2025 report. These are reported specifications, not results from an independent vehicle test. The S2000 is therefore a gasoline touring motorcycle—not an electric motorcycle or a solution that increases battery range.
Why electric-motorcycle range can drop on the highway
IEEE Spectrum’s 2025 article discusses selected electric motorcycles, including the LiveWire One and Zero DSR/X. In that context, it gives about 160 km (100 miles) of highway range for high-end electric examples; for the DSR/X, it contrasts a 288 km city figure with roughly 160 km on the highway. These are contextual figures for the named examples, not a range estimate for every electric motorcycle.

Highway speed and aerodynamic drag can increase energy use, and motorcycles’ aerodynamics can make sustained fast riding demanding on a battery. The article also points to limited fast-charging availability as a touring inconvenience: a route may require more planning and longer stops than a gasoline trip. Actual range and stop times depend on the motorcycle, speed, conditions, route and charging access.
What the S2000 figures do—and do not—tell you
IEEE Spectrum quoted Weixing Niu, a GWM engineer who worked on the S2000, saying that an initial run of 288 motorcycles sold out in 15 minutes. Niu also reported an average price of RMB 238,000 (about US$32,500) and fuel consumption around 6 L/100 km. These are historical claims attributed to Niu in the 2025 report; they are not current market pricing or independently verified consumption results.

Niu described the project’s ambition this way: “We wanted to make the most powerful, the best motorcycle in the world.” That is his stated goal, not an established independent ranking. He also said, “In our opinion, motorcycling is a culture.”
A May 2026 SOUO Europe launch announcement described CL (Cruiser Legend) and GL (Grand Luxury Tourer) variants and cited 117 liters of storage for the GL. That storage figure belonged to the announced European model, but the planned European sales route was later withdrawn; it should not be read as confirmation that the GL can currently be ordered there.

Gasoline versus electric for touring: the useful trade-offs

The comparison is about different touring trade-offs, not proof that electric motorcycles generally have inadequate range or that the S2000 is the better choice. The available coverage is not an independent S2000 road test or a controlled comparison of matched routes, costs or stop times.
Can you buy or get S2000 parts in Europe?
As of the SOUO/rewaco notice accessed October 8, 2026, the previously announced German launch through rewaco will not proceed. The notice states: “Es wird keinen Vertrieb der SOUO S2000 über rewaco in Europa geben”—“There will be no distribution of the SOUO S2000 through rewaco in Europe.” It says rewaco will take no S2000 orders and provide no S2000 service or spare parts.

The notice says four demonstrator motorcycles may be offered later, but it does not list their specifications, equipment or prices. That possibility is not a current order opportunity or confirmation of an available listing. The May 2026 announcement describing a German launch is superseded for current European purchase context by the withdrawal notice.

The S2000 is most relevant to riders drawn to a large-displacement gasoline touring motorcycle and to the refueling infrastructure that comes with gasoline. Riders comparing it with an electric tourer should evaluate their own route, cruising speed, charging access and preferred stop pattern rather than treating one model’s range as representative of an entire powertrain.

For a European buyer, the immediate practical issue is not a spec-sheet comparison: rewaco says there will be no distribution, orders, service or parts through its European plan. Outside Europe, the cited sources do not establish current local availability, pricing or support, so those details need confirmation from an authorized source in the relevant market.
