Sony Honda Mobility opened California reservations for its planned AFEELA 1 electric vehicle at CES 2025, but the car is no longer headed for launch. On March 25, 2026, Sony Honda Mobility (SHM), Sony and Honda announced that they were discontinuing development and launch of AFEELA 1 and a second planned model. SHM said it would issue full refunds of reservation fees to current California reservation holders.
What Sony Honda Mobility announced at CES 2025
AFEELA 1 was presented as the first vehicle under the AFEELA brand, developed by Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture between Sony and Honda. In January 2025, SHM said California residents could reserve the planned vehicle online with a fully refundable $200 fee. The announcement set out a proposed production and sales schedule: production in Ohio, California sales anticipated in 2025, and deliveries anticipated in mid-2026. Those dates were forecasts, not a current release schedule. Sony Honda Mobility’s January 6, 2025 announcement.
What were the announced AFEELA 1 prices?
SHM’s CES 2025 highlights listed two proposed trims. The figures were announcement details; they do not mean either version reached sale or remains available to order. Sony Honda Mobility’s January 7, 2025 CES highlights.

It presented planned features including AFEELA Intelligent Drive, characterized as Level 2+ advanced driver assistance; an entertainment selection; customizable themes; an AFEELA Personal Agent; a Media Bar; immersive 3D experiences; spatial sound; and 5G connectivity. Why AFEELA 1 was discontinued
On March 25, 2026, SHM announced that it was discontinuing development and launch of AFEELA 1 and its second model under development. SHM said Honda’s reassessment of its automobile electrification strategy meant certain Honda technologies and assets originally planned for the vehicles could not be used, leaving the company without a viable route to market as planned. SHM stated: “In light of this change, SHM has determined that it does not have a viable path forward to bring the Models to market as originally planned.” Sony Group Corporation and Sony Honda Mobility announcement, March 25, 2026.
On April 21, 2026, Sony, Honda and SHM said it would be difficult to bring products and services aligned with SHM’s founding purpose to market in the short to medium term under the existing framework. They said they would review SHM’s structure and scale down its operations. The companies said employees were expected in principle to be reassigned to parent companies and related entities, while discussions would continue about possible future collaboration, including in software and advanced driver-assistance systems. What this means for reservation holders and buyers
Reservations and refunds
SHM said it would issue full refunds of reservation fees to current AFEELA 1 reservation holders in California. That is the company’s stated commitment; the announcement does not establish that every individual refund has already cleared. The original $200 fee was described as fully refundable when reservations opened.
Release date and financing
There is no release date to wait for: AFEELA 1’s planned launch was discontinued before the vehicle reached market. The CES 2025 timing—California sales anticipated in 2025 and deliveries in mid-2026—was superseded by the March 2026 decision. The official announcements cited here do not establish financing terms.
