There is no verified, authoritative ranking of the world’s 20 smallest military vehicles in the sources available for this article. “Smallest” is also hard to define across unlike classes: a motorcycle, a light tactical 4×4, an articulated carrier and an armoured fighting vehicle do different jobs and cannot be ranked fairly by appearance alone.
This documented survey focuses on crewed ground platforms with established military roles. It compares the dimensions that are available and explains where transportability—not a record-setting size—is the point. Unmanned systems are excluded, and the available specifications do not support a definitive top-20 list.
What counts as a small military vehicle?
For a useful comparison, “small” needs a defined measure and a comparable group. This survey covers crewed military ground vehicles, including tracked carriers and tactical wheeled vehicles. It does not attempt to compare motorcycles, consumer models or unmanned systems, and it does not claim that the vehicles listed are the world’s smallest.
Length, width and height are useful when a source provides them, but they do not tell the whole story. Vehicle class, payload, protection, crew capacity and the aircraft or ship needed to move a platform can matter more to its mission than one dimension. The sources below provide a mix of specifications and transport claims, so only vehicles with comparable published measurements should be treated as dimensional comparisons.

Vehicles with published dimensions
Two official sources in this set provide dimensions for light 4×4 vehicles. Their figures describe specific vehicles, not a global ranking; the sources do not establish that the figures were measured under identical conditions.
| Vehicle | Class and role | Length | Width | Height | Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DMV Anaconda | 4×4 developed for the Netherlands Marine Corps; the Dutch Ministry of Defence also describes mobility and humanitarian-support uses. | 5.275 m | 2.26 m | 2.30 m | Four plus one, according to the Netherlands Ministry of Defence. |
| SHERPA Light Scout and Station Wagon | Light tactical 4×4 family. Arquus lists reconnaissance, patrol, surveillance, command-post, liaison and internal-security missions. | 5.43 m | 2.36 m | 2.13 m | Not stated on the cited Arquus page. |
The Anaconda is based on the Iveco Daily 4×4, and the Dutch ministry notes its ability to carry substantial water. The ministry cautions that its page may not yet reflect current information, so its specifications should be read as the figures the ministry lists, not as confirmation of present fleet status. The SHERPA dimensions apply to the Scout and Station Wagon variants, not necessarily every vehicle in the family.

- Contains parts to build one of each model.
Compact platforms whose sources do not establish dimensions
These vehicles are relevant to a discussion of compact military platforms, but the cited pages do not provide enough dimensional information to place them in a size ranking.
Wiesel 1 and Wiesel 2
Rheinmetall describes the Wiesel 1 as a tracked vehicle family intended to support airmobile forces. It can be carried inside a CH-53 helicopter or transported as underslung cargo. The family includes TOW, MK 20 automatic-cannon and reconnaissance versions. The larger Wiesel 2 has a roomier interior and greater payload, with reconnaissance, command-and-control, air-defence, recovery, evacuation, engineer-reconnaissance, medivac and command-post variants. The cited manufacturer page does not give dimensions or establish a world-smallest record.
Rank #3
- Kit includes one-piece vinyl tracks
- This kit is 7.7 Inch long
- 1/35 Scale Armor
Bv206S
Rheinmetall describes the Bv206S as a lightly armoured, air-portable all-terrain vehicle made of two sections connected by an articulated hydraulic transmission and swivel joint. German Bundeswehr configurations include medivac, mobile surgery, personnel transport and tactical operations centres. Its articulated layout helps explain why a single length measurement would not fully describe the vehicle, but the cited page does not provide verified dimensions.
L-ATV
Oshkosh Defense presents the L-ATV as the platform selected for the U.S. Department of Defense Joint Light Tactical Vehicle program. The manufacturer lists transport options that include CH-47 and CH-53 helicopters and C-130, C-5, C-17 and A400 aircraft, as well as weapons-carrier, ambulance and mobile-command-post configurations. Its TAK-4i suspension has more than 20 inches of wheel travel, according to Oshkosh. The cited page does not list length, width or height, so the L-ATV is useful here as a transport and mobility comparison, not as a dimensional entry.
Rank #4
- Scale 1:35
- Complete interior design for driver's compartment and engine
- Rubber tyres
Why “compact” does not mean “among the smallest”
Military vehicle descriptions often use “compact” in relation to a role or transport requirement. That does not make every vehicle described that way small compared with all military platforms.
PANDUR 6×6
General Dynamics European Land Systems calls the PANDUR 6×6 compact and air-transportable in a C-130. The manufacturer lists a maximum gross vehicle weight of 19.5 tonnes. In APC/IFV configuration, it carries three crew and up to eight infantry. Those figures make it a useful contrast: “compact” can describe a vehicle’s fit for its mission and transport method without implying a place among the smallest vehicles overall.

Can the available figures support a top 20?
No. The available official sources establish several platforms, roles and some vehicle specifications, but they do not provide a consistent set of dimensions and weights for 20 vehicles across the same classes. A 2022 Armoured Vehicles Handbook search result identifies two further candidates, but those figures are secondary-source leads rather than manufacturer specifications verified here.
- The handbook’s Issue 12 (2022) search result lists the Minotor-Service 3T Omni-role Tracked Carrier at 4.72 m long, 2.5 m wide and 1.6 m high.
- The same result lists the Egyptian Sinai-200 at 6.1 m long, 3.04 m wide and 1.88 m high.
Those measurements should not be presented as verified official specifications or used to rank either vehicle against the entries above without confirmation from an authoritative vehicle source. More broadly, a defensible ranking would need a consistent inclusion rule and comparable measurements for every entry, including the vehicle variant and whether the quoted weight is combat weight or gross vehicle weight.
How to compare military vehicle size fairly
Before calling one platform smaller than another, check what is being compared and why:
- Class and mission: Separate motorcycles, utility vehicles, tracked carriers, reconnaissance vehicles and armoured fighting vehicles rather than treating them as interchangeable.
- Variant and dimensions: Record length, width and height for the named version, and note whether the source specifies measurement conditions.
- Weight measure: Do not treat combat weight, payload and maximum gross vehicle weight as the same figure.
- People and equipment: Compare crew and passenger capacity alongside protection and armament where the source provides them.
- Transport method: Distinguish a stated aircraft-transport claim from a dimensional specification. Being carried by helicopter or aircraft is evidence of a transport role, not proof of a world size record.
On the published evidence here, the Wiesel is a compact airmobile tracked vehicle, the Anaconda and SHERPA Light are measured light 4×4 examples, and the other platforms illustrate specialized mobility or transport roles. None can be identified as the world’s smallest military vehicle from these sources.
