The 2025 Nissan Z is a two-seat coupe-style alternative with substantially higher stated output. The 2025 Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster offer coupe and roadster body styles in a premium price tier. These are useful alternatives, but not direct equivalents to the Miata in size or budget.

Mazda MX-5 Miata: compact roadster first
Mazda describes the MX-5 as a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive, two-seat roadster. Nissan’s 2025 brochure lists a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, rated at 400 hp in Sport and Performance and 420 hp in NISMO. Sport and Performance offer a six-speed manual; NISMO is automatic-only. That makes the Z a substantially more powerful alternative on the published engine figures, not simply another compact roadster.

Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster: coupe or roadster in a premium tier
The Cayman has a fixed roof; the Boxster is a roadster. Porsche’s U.S. 2025 configurator lists variants from base through GTS 4.0, with output from 300 to 394 hp across the variants shown. Its listed starting prices underscore that these models belong to a premium comparison tier: $75,400 for Cayman and $105,500 for Boxster GTS 4.0, before options and fees.
What if you cannot fit comfortably in a Miata?
Do not assume the Nissan Z or either Porsche 718 will fit better based on the name or body style. Comparable cabin-fit measurements are not established here, and fit depends on the individual driver and configuration. Sit in each candidate and check headroom, legroom, seat travel, and how easily you can get in and out. A reader question about alternatives for someone who could not fit in a Miata appears in an anecdotal Reddit discussion; it is not evidence that this is a widespread issue or that a particular alternative will solve it.

How to choose and verify a 2025 car
- Decide which body style you want. Compare the Miata soft top and RF retractable hardtop, the Nissan Z coupe-style body, and the fixed-roof Cayman versus roadster Boxster.
- Match the transmission to your preference. Mazda’s 2025 announcement makes the automatic available only on Grand Touring; Nissan’s brochure makes the NISMO automatic-only while Sport and Performance offer a six-speed manual.
- Set a realistic budget. Porsche’s published starting prices exclude options and fees. For the other models, check current manufacturer pricing and local dealer listings rather than treating model-year specifications as a quote.
- Try the seat and controls in person. Check headroom, legroom, seat travel, and ingress and egress in the exact car or trim you are considering.
- Confirm the specific vehicle is available. Model-year 2025 inventory may consist of used or remaining-stock vehicles. Verify the year, trim, transmission, roof/body style, price, and local availability with the manufacturer or dealer.
Why this list stays focused on strict two-seaters
This is a U.S. model-year 2025 shortlist, not a complete worldwide catalog of small two-seat cars.
