Slate Auto has announced a $24,950 price for its Blank Slate electric pickup, so the January 2026 headline about still trying “to bring costs down” is no longer the current pricing status. The $24,950 is a starting price: Slate separately lists a $1,450 destination charge, and taxes, fees, and optional equipment can raise the final total.
Why Slate was still discussing costs in January
In an interview with InsideEVs published January 28, 2026, Slate CEO Chris Barman was asked whether the company had settled on a price. Barman said supplier discussions were continuing: “We’re still working really closely with our suppliers to see what opportunities we have to continue to bring costs down, to see what we can do to pass along to the customer before we announce final pricing.”
That statement described the situation at the time of the interview. Slate subsequently announced the Blank Slate price on June 24, 2026.
What the Slate Blank Slate costs
Slate announced a $24,950 price for the Blank Slate in 2026. Its current FAQ lists a separate $1,450 destination charge. Slate says the listed price excludes taxes, title, registration, government fees, documentation fees, and optional equipment. The $24,950 is therefore not an out-the-door price.

The final configured price and applicable taxes and fees are calculated in the Vehicle Purchase Agreement. Slate’s FAQ and preorder terms describe the current pricing and order conditions.
What the starting price covers—and what it does not
The Blank Slate is a two-seat electric pickup. Slate also offers choices that can add equipment or change the vehicle into a five-seat SUV configuration, including Squareback and Fastback forms. Those choices are separate from the base price, so buyers should compare the price of the configuration they actually want rather than treating the advertised starting figure as the price of every version.

- Molded in white, black and clear. Paint and glue required(not included).
Slate’s preorder terms call for a $300 nonrefundable deposit, credited toward the purchase price. Placing a preorder is not the completed vehicle purchase: the final configured price and applicable charges are set in the Vehicle Purchase Agreement, and the deposit does not mean optional equipment is included in the base price.
Range and delivery are still projections
Slate lists a projected range of 205 miles. The company says this is an estimate based on an approximation of the EPA test cycle, not an official EPA-estimated range. The Blank Slate remains in preproduction, and Slate says specifications may change. The figure should not be treated as an independently tested or EPA-certified result.

When comparing the Blank Slate with another vehicle, compare like with like: the same seating and cargo configuration, included equipment, destination and mandatory charges, and range basis. A projected range is not directly equivalent to an official EPA estimate, and a base price is not directly comparable to a configured total.
Rank #4
Slate directs buyers to its own marketplace for the vehicle and proprietary accessories and says a charging cable is included. The available pricing information does not establish an independent, fully configured out-the-door total; that depends on the buyer’s selections and the final purchase agreement.
