Slate Auto says its electric truck will be built in Warsaw, Indiana, at a former printing campus being redeveloped for vehicle production. The company targets first deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2026, while its current $24,950 MSRP has replaced the earlier under-$20,000-after-incentives headline.

Slate Auto says its electric pickup will be built in Warsaw, Indiana, at a former printing-plant campus the company is converting for vehicle production. The site is being prepared for manufacturing, but production has not been established as underway: Slate says trucks are expected to roll off the line later in 2026, with first customer deliveries targeted for the fourth quarter.

The Warsaw announcement also puts the truck’s frequently repeated “$20,000” price in context. Slate originally promoted an expected price of under $20,000 after potential federal incentives. Its current published price for the Blank Slate Truck is $24,950 before destination, taxes, title, registration and other charges.

Rather than announce a completely new greenfield factory, Slate is reusing and redeveloping the existing industrial site. The company says it is tooling up the Warsaw facility for vehicle production.

Indiana environmental records independently identify the Slate Auto facility at the Old 30 address. Those records document renovation-related asbestos-abatement work scheduled from June 2, 2025, through October 1, 2026. That supports the description of the site as an active redevelopment project, but it does not prove that completed vehicle production or volume manufacturing has begun.

When will Slate trucks enter production?

Slate’s current timeline is prospective:

  • Factory preparation: Slate says the Warsaw plant is being tooled up.
  • Start of production target: Trucks are expected to roll off the line later in 2026.
  • First delivery target: Slate’s June 2026 materials point to the fourth quarter of 2026.

Those dates are company targets, not proof that production has started. Slate continues to describe the vehicle as being in preproduction, and specifications remain subject to change. A careful description is that Slate is preparing the Warsaw factory for production later in 2026 and currently expects first customer deliveries in the fourth quarter.

What happened to the $20,000 Slate Truck?

The original “$20,000 truck” description referred to Slate’s April 2025 launch positioning. The company said the truck was expected to cost under $20,000 after federal incentives. That was not a normal, all-in sticker price, and the launch materials also warned that the vehicle was still in preproduction.

Slate’s current published pricing is different:

Charge or price Current information
Blank Slate Truck MSRP $24,950
Destination charge $1,450
Additional costs Taxes, title, registration, government fees and other applicable charges

That means the current published price is at least $26,400 before taxes and other applicable fees when the $1,450 destination charge is added to the $24,950 MSRP. The final transaction price may vary by location and eligibility for any incentives that may be available at the time of purchase.

The accurate takeaway is not that Slate currently sells a $20,000 truck. The company originally promoted an under-$20,000 post-incentive target; its current published base MSRP is $24,950 before destination and other fees.

Why Warsaw matters to Slate’s manufacturing plan

Slate is presenting the project as a reindustrialization effort: an existing manufacturing campus is being repurposed for electric-vehicle production instead of being replaced by an entirely new factory.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

In its June 2026 materials, Slate says it plans to invest nearly $400 million in the facility and create more than 2,000 jobs in Warsaw. Those figures are forward-looking company projections, not independently audited results or a current headcount.

The local economic-development record also includes a tax-abatement matter involving Re:Car doing business as Slate Auto and Phoenix Warsaw Industrial Investors. That record shows government action connected with the project, but it should not be treated as proof that the full projected investment has already been completed.

The larger economic case depends on what happens next. Reusing the printing campus gives Slate an existing industrial foundation and places the project in a region with manufacturing labor and supply-chain infrastructure. The promised jobs and broader economic contribution, however, depend on the company reaching production, selling vehicles and sustaining the operation.

What kind of vehicle is Slate building?

The Slate Truck is a two-door electric pickup designed as a customizable platform. In its basic form, it is intended to function as a simple pickup. With an accessory kit, Slate says it can be converted into a five-seat SUV.

The vehicle’s deliberately minimalist approach is central to the product. Slate’s materials emphasize giving buyers a basic platform they can personalize rather than bundling every possible feature into the initial vehicle price. The company has discussed features such as a universal phone mount and USB power, while offering a broad accessory marketplace.

Slate’s initial materials described two battery choices:

  • Standard battery: 52.7 kWh with a projected range of 150 miles.
  • Optional battery: 84.3 kWh with a projected range of 240 miles.

Those figures were projections, not official EPA estimates. Range, charging, safety equipment, cabin equipment and other specifications should be treated as preproduction information until Slate publishes final specifications and certification details.

What will ownership involve?

Destination charges and factory pickup

A Warsaw-built truck does not automatically mean free delivery or customer pickup at the factory. Slate’s FAQ lists a $1,450 destination charge covering transportation, processing and delivery from the Warsaw factory to the customer’s delivery point.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Slate says factory pickup may be offered in the future, but under its current policy, factory pickup would not eliminate the destination charge. Buyers should therefore include destination and local taxes and fees in their budget rather than treating $24,950 as the final amount.

Home charging

Home charging is another practical cost to investigate before delivery. Slate says it has partnered with Treehouse for home-charging installation and electrical upgrades. Prospective owners should confirm the final charging hardware, electrical requirements, installation pricing and service area once production specifications are finalized. A vehicle that is inexpensive to purchase can still require a meaningful electrical upgrade if a home’s existing service is not suitable.

Service and accessory installation

Slate has also referenced RepairPal locations in connection with accessory shipment and service support. That suggests a service strategy beyond a single factory location, but it does not establish that every RepairPal location will service the production Slate Truck. Owners should verify location coverage, technician capability, warranty handling and compatibility before arranging work.

Customization

Customization is likely to be one of the truck’s defining ownership considerations. Slate has promoted accessories including roof racks, stereos, seat covers, light covers and vehicle wraps, along with the hardware needed to transform the pickup into an SUV-style configuration.

Because the truck is still preproduction, buyers should wait for confirmed production fitment before purchasing third-party equipment marketed as compatible. Final mounting points, electrical interfaces, weight limits, software requirements and warranty rules may differ from early concept or launch materials.

What the Warsaw announcement does—and does not—confirm

Confirmed or stated Not yet established by the available evidence
Slate identifies Warsaw, Indiana, as its manufacturing location. That completed mass production is already underway.
The facility is a former printing-campus site at 2801 W. Old 30. That renovation records alone prove production readiness.
Slate is targeting production later in 2026 and first deliveries in Q4 2026. That the delivery target cannot change.
The current Blank Slate price is $24,950 before destination and other fees. That buyers will pay $20,000 out the door.
Slate says it plans nearly $400 million in investment and more than 2,000 jobs. That the full investment or job total has already been realized.
Early battery and range figures have been published. That those figures are final EPA-certified specifications.

The bottom line on Slate’s Indiana truck factory

Slate has identified a real manufacturing site in Warsaw, Indiana, and is redeveloping a former printing complex there for electric-truck production. The project has a concrete address, documented renovation activity and stated targets for investment, employment and deliveries.

But the announcement should not be read as proof that customer trucks are already being built. Production is still planned for later in 2026, with first deliveries targeted for Q4 2026.

The other important clarification concerns price. The original under-$20,000 claim was tied to potential federal incentives. The current published figure is $24,950 before the $1,450 destination charge and other costs. For shoppers, the Warsaw location is the confirmed part of the story; the final price, production timing and vehicle specifications remain matters to verify as Slate moves from preproduction to deliveries.
