The Evo’s defining improvement was its heavily revised aerodynamics. Ferrari developed the package from continuous track testing, adding substantially more aerodynamic sophistication while retaining the FXX-K’s 6.3-liter V12 and Hy-Kers hybrid system. The result was a car intended to explore Ferrari technology at the circuit—not to be registered, raced in an external championship, or used on public roads.

What is the Ferrari FXX-K Evo?
The FXX-K Evo is an evolution of Ferrari’s FXX-K, itself a track-only model created for the XX Programme. Ferrari unveiled the Evo at the 2017 Finali Mondiali and presented the first native Evo cars as the new model for the 2018 season.

It is best understood as a customer-accessible Ferrari research car within a controlled track program. That description is more accurate than calling it a race car or suggesting that it is simply an especially extreme road car. Ferrari describes the XX Programme as a non-competitive owner-test-driver activity used to evaluate advanced solutions and technological innovations.
Ferrari also states that the FXX-K Evo was not designed for the road or for other competitions. Consequently, availability, eligibility, storage, servicing, and participation are controlled through Ferrari’s program rather than handled like a normal production-car purchase.
2018 Ferrari FXX-K Evo specifications
| Specification | Ferrari-listed figure |
|---|---|
| Engine | 6,262 cc, 65-degree V12 |
| Hybrid system | Hy-Kers |
| Maximum power | 1,050 CV; Ferrari’s XX Programme brochure also uses the figure “1,050 hp” |
| Maximum torque | 900 Nm |
| Wheelbase | 2,665 mm |
| Height | 1,116 mm |
| Front tires | 285/650 R19 |
| Rear tires | 345/725 R20 |
| Downforce | 530 kg at 200 km/h, according to Ferrari’s XX Programme brochure |
Ferrari’s published material uses both CV and hp when describing the 1,050-power figure. For that reason, it is preferable to retain Ferrari’s wording rather than present an informal conversion as if it were a separate factory specification.

The FXX-K Evo combines Ferrari’s naturally aspirated 12-cylinder engine with instantaneous electric assistance from the Hy-Kers system. Ferrari’s brochure describes the combined output as 1,050 hp, while the model information lists 1,050 CV and 900 Nm of maximum torque.
The hybrid system is important to the character of the car. The FXX-K Evo is not merely a V12 with a large aerodynamic kit attached. Its electrical assistance was part of the car’s performance-development purpose, delivering additional response while allowing Ferrari to investigate hybrid technology in a highly controlled circuit environment.
Why the aerodynamics are the real story
The most significant change from the FXX-K to the FXX-K Evo was the aerodynamic package. Ferrari described it as a heavily revised system created through continuous development by its technicians. The work focused on increasing downforce, improving aerodynamic efficiency, and making the car more effective and predictable during high-speed track driving.

The stated figure of 530 kg of downforce at 200 km/h gives some scale to the development effort. Downforce is not the same as engine power: it pushes the car into the circuit through aerodynamic load, helping the tires generate more cornering and braking force. The trade-off is additional drag and greater sensitivity to ride height, airflow, tire condition, and circuit configuration.

That trade-off helps explain why the Evo belongs in Ferrari’s XX Programme. Its design priorities make sense on a closed circuit with Ferrari support and controlled testing. They do not translate directly into comfort, practicality, or road usability.
2017 unveiling and 2018 track debut
- October 2017: Ferrari unveiled the FXX-K Evo at Finali Mondiali.
- March 2018: The Evo aerodynamic kit made its official on-track debut at Circuit of the Americas. Ferrari initially fitted the kit to three existing FXX-K cars.
- 2018 season: Ferrari described the first three native examples as the all-new FXX-K Evo model for that season.
This sequence matters because the “Evo” was not only a newly built car. Ferrari also treated the aerodynamic development as an upgrade path for existing XX cars. The first track appearance therefore involved three FXX-Ks fitted with the kit, while the first native Evo examples followed as part of the 2018 Corse Clienti season.
Is the FXX-K Evo a race car?
Not in the usual customer-racing sense. The FXX-K Evo was built for Ferrari’s non-competitive XX Programme, not for entry into an outside racing series. It was intended for owner-test drivers participating in Ferrari’s organized development environment.
It can be faster and more technically specialized than many competition cars, but that does not make it a conventional race entrant. There is no reason to assume that it was homologated for a racing category, eligible for public competition, or designed around the sporting regulations of a particular championship.
Is the 2018 Ferrari FXX-K Evo street legal?
No—not as a general road car. Ferrari explicitly says the FXX-K Evo was not designed for the road. It should therefore be described as a track-only Ferrari rather than a road-legal hypercar.

Road-registration rules can vary by country for specially constructed or individually modified vehicles, but that does not change Ferrari’s stated purpose for this model. The safe and accurate conclusion is that the FXX-K Evo was created for closed-circuit use within Ferrari’s program, not for ordinary public-road driving.
How the XX Programme changes the ownership question
Asking how much an FXX-K Evo costs or where someone can buy one misses the unusual nature of the car. The relevant context is the Ferrari XX Programme, where the vehicle is part of an organized owner-test ecosystem rather than a normal retail transaction.
That means the FXX-K Evo should not be presented as a car that anyone can purchase, register, and drive like a road-going Ferrari. Ferrari’s published material establishes the program’s research and non-competitive purpose, but the sources considered here do not establish a complete production census, a universal purchase price, or current eligibility and participation rules.

FXX-K Evo versus FXX-K
| Area | FXX-K | FXX-K Evo |
|---|---|---|
| Role | XX Programme track-development car | Further evolution for the same controlled program |
| Powertrain | V12 combined with Hy-Kers | V12 combined with Hy-Kers, with Ferrari citing 1,050 CV/1,050 hp combined output |
| Main development focus | Extreme V12-hybrid circuit performance | Major aerodynamic revision developed through track testing |
| Program status | Non-competitive XX Programme vehicle | Non-competitive XX Programme vehicle and Evo upgrade for existing FXX-K cars |
The Evo is therefore not a completely unrelated successor. It is the aerodynamic and developmental progression of the FXX-K, retaining the core V12-hybrid concept while adding a more advanced body and aero package.
What makes it different from a Ferrari 499P or other race car?
The distinction is purpose. A conventional race car is developed to meet the technical and sporting regulations of a championship and to compete against other entrants. The FXX-K Evo was developed for Ferrari’s private, non-competitive testing and owner-driving program.

Both types of car can use sophisticated aerodynamics, hybrid technology, and advanced data systems, but their operating environments are different. The FXX-K Evo’s identity comes from Ferrari’s technology-development program, not from a race classification or a record in a public competition.
How many FXX-K Evo cars were built?
Ferrari’s published sources used for this article do not provide a complete production total. They do identify three cars involved in the initial March 2018 on-track debut and describe the first three native examples as the new 2018 model. That is not enough evidence to claim that only three FXX-K Evos exist, nor does it establish a final worldwide census.
Accordingly, articles and listings that quote an exact total should be checked against a Ferrari source or documented chassis records before being treated as definitive.

For collectors who cannot access the real XX Programme car, a 1:18 Ferrari FXX-K Evo model car is the practical alternative. Documented products in this category include a Bburago Signature Series 1:18 model and a Doyusha 1:18 Ferrari FXX-K Evo model kit with RC functionality. A licensed Jamara 1:24 Ferrari FXX-K Evo RC car has also been documented historically.
Availability changes frequently, and the evidence available for those products does not confirm a currently active U.S. Amazon listing, exact ASIN, price, seller, or affiliate eligibility. Buyers should verify that a listing actually says FXX-K Evo; some die-cast listings use the shorter FXX-K name, which does not automatically make them an Evo replica.

Ferrari’s official store has also documented a premium 1:8 Ferrari FXX-K collector model made by Amalgam. It includes presentation packaging, a certificate, display base, cover, serial plate, and large display dimensions. However, the official product is identified as an FXX-K, not explicitly as an FXX-K Evo. It should therefore be treated as an adjacent premium Ferrari collectible—not as an exact Evo model unless the product description specifically confirms that distinction.
