Slate Auto appointed former Amazon Marketplace executive Peter Faricy as CEO on March 9, 2026, replacing founding CEO Chris Barman months before the company’s planned electric pickup launch. Slate later announced a $24,950 pickup price and said it expected first deliveries in Q4 2026; that remains a company forecast, not confirmation that deliveries have begun.

Why Slate changed CEOs

TechCrunch reported on March 9, 2026, that Peter Faricy had replaced Chris Barman as Slate’s CEO. Barman was moving into a role focused on getting the truck delivered “on time and on budget,” according to Slate executive Peter Jablansky, as quoted by Sean O’Kane in TechCrunch.

Jablansky also said Faricy’s experience building Amazon Marketplace was “really critical” to Slate. The company’s choice points to the challenge it faces: moving from developing a vehicle to preparing a product, sales and delivery operation at scale. That is a reasonable reading of the timing, but Slate’s public explanation does not establish that a specific production problem prompted the change.

What the company said about the launch

When TechCrunch reported the leadership change, it said Slate had about 160,000 refundable preorders and was preparing to convert that list to vehicle orders. That was a March 2026 snapshot—not a current order count, and not proof that those reservations became purchases.

In a June 24, 2026 release, Slate said it had more than 180,000 reservation holders and expected first deliveries in Q4 2026. The figure is company-reported, and the delivery timing is a forecast. Neither confirms how many customers completed purchases or whether deliveries actually took place. Slate’s FAQ describes first deliveries as slated for late 2026.

Slate’s announced price and configurations

Slate announced a $24,950 MSRP for the Blank Slate pickup. Its FAQ separately lists a $1,450 destination charge, so the announced vehicle price and destination charge should not be treated as the same figure. The June release put the starting price for the Squareback and Fastback SUV configurations at $29,950.

Customization is part of the pitch—and the cost calculation

Slate says its Marketplace offers more than 200 accessories, including roof racks, stereos, seat covers and light covers. The company said more than 80% of those accessories cost less than $500 in its June 2026 release. Those are Slate’s own descriptions of its Marketplace; they do not establish availability through Amazon or the final price of any particular build.

Customization may suit buyers who want to start with a basic vehicle and add equipment later. It also means comparing the base price with the actual configuration a buyer needs, including accessories or an SUV conversion, rather than assuming the advertised pickup price covers them.

Who the announced Slate may suit

Slate’s own positioning says the vehicle may not be right for shoppers seeking high performance, substantial towing or self-driving features. Its announced 2,000-pound maximum towing figure and 205-mile projected range may be adequate for some light-duty use, but buyers should match them to their own trailer, payload and driving needs—and wait for final specifications before relying on them for a purchase decision.

For a prospective EV owner, NACS is the announced connector, but the available materials do not establish compatibility with a specific third-party home charger or the final charging rate. Before buying equipment or arranging installation, confirm connector compatibility, charging rate, household electrical capacity and installation requirements for the final vehicle configuration.

What remains unconfirmed

  • Whether Slate has begun customer deliveries: the cited Q4 2026 timing is the company’s expectation, not a verified outcome.
  • How many reservations convert into completed vehicle purchases: reservation-holder totals are not sales.
  • Final production specifications, official EPA range, crash rating and delivered price: the announced vehicle figures are estimates, and the reviewed materials do not establish these final values.
