The car felt capable rather than exciting when driven hard, and the publication judged its interior dated and its £30,010 new-car price steep. Those are the test team’s conclusions about one UK fleet car, not a verdict on every Fabia 130.
The Fabia 130 Auto Express tested
Auto Express said its Fabia 130 joined the fleet in March 2026. Its final report recorded 7,184 miles and listed a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 174bhp and 250Nm, paired with a seven-speed DSG automatic. The publication listed the test car at £30,010 new, with CO2 emissions of 126g/km and a 31% tax figure. These are figures reported for that UK test car and price context, not independently verified or necessarily current specifications.
The DSG is standard-fit, and the article says it has bespoke shift mapping. The report also listed a £360 Charging Package and a £560 Winter Premium Package as options on the tested car.
What it was like to live with
Comfort and everyday usability
The reporter praised the straightforward ergonomics and infotainment, particularly the physical climate controls. On longer journeys, the ride was comfortable; push the car harder and body roll becomes noticeable. The test’s small practical observations included remote window opening, a removable cup-holder tray, an umbrella in the door and an ice scraper in the fuel-filler cap.

Engine and driving character
In the test team’s view, the 1.5-litre engine had enough capability but felt flat and unrewarding when driven hard. The reporter would have liked a manual gearbox option. The result is a car with sporting details and more power than a regular Fabia, but not a full-fat hot hatch. Škoda said the 130 was not intended to be a vRS.
That distinction matters when considering the name’s heritage. Auto Express recalled the first-generation Fabia vRS as a diesel with 130bhp and 310Nm; the publication’s own earlier test car had been remapped to 160bhp and 383Nm. Its reporter found that older car more eager and entertaining, while the Fabia 130 felt more composed and comfortable. They are very different cars from different eras, not directly comparable performance tests.

Škoda described the Fabia 130 as one that “pays tribute to this rich heritage, combining everyday usability with authentic motorsport DNA”. Auto Express’s assessment was more restrained: it considered the car mildly sporty rather than a successor in spirit to the vRS.
Fuel economy over the test
Auto Express reported observed fleet-car economy of 43.2mpg at 2,550 miles, 47.8mpg at 5,603 miles and 49.7mpg in its final report at 7,184 miles. These are the publication’s readings from one car over its test, not an official rating or a guaranteed result for other drivers.

Reported problems
The final report listed a flat tyre and a flat battery among the car’s problems. An earlier dash rattle appeared to stop, according to the reporter. The article does not identify the cause of the battery issue or establish that any of these incidents are common to the model.
Price and the used-car question
Auto Express considered the £30,010 new-car price high and thought the Fabia 130 might make more sense as a used buy. Its valuation experts put the car at 41.9% of value retained, compared with a 43.4% average for the Fabia range. The article also described low-mileage used examples listed below £24,000. These are publication-reported valuation and listing observations from 2026, not guaranteed future values or current market prices; an individual car’s condition, mileage and market will affect what it is worth.

Who the test suggests it suits
The fleet report points toward a buyer who values a comfortable, forgiving small car with useful everyday touches and a more powerful engine, but does not require a genuinely sharp hot hatch. Its observed economy was encouraging for the test team, while its relaxed ride and simple controls were stronger parts of the ownership experience than its hard-driving character.
For a prospective buyer, the main trade-off is therefore clear: the Fabia 130 combines everyday usability with a modest sporting edge, but the test team found the engine less engaging than expected, the cabin dated and the new-car price difficult to justify. The reported used-market examples were more tempting to the publication, though any specific car needs to be judged on its own condition and price.
