Shoreline Bespoke Vehicles is developing the LM Coupe, a two-seat sports car that aims to combine the shape of a 1960s endurance-racing prototype with a modern, extremely low-volume engineering program. Its planned formula is unusually focused: a BMW-derived naturally aspirated straight-six, sequential transmission, tubular chassis, motorsport-style suspension and steering, and a cabin designed to keep the driver involved rather than entertained.

The California startup has not yet established the LM Coupe as a delivered production car. Power, weight, price, certification, allocation and first-delivery timing remain unresolved. But unlike a purely decorative concept, Shoreline says it has built a functional prototype, developed production-control systems and is working toward customer cars.

A 1960s prototype silhouette without a direct replica

The LM Coupe draws from the sports-prototype era of the 1960s rather than reproducing one historical model. Coverage has specifically compared its proportions and detailing with the Porsche 906, while other published descriptions identify the Ferrari Dino 206 SP and Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 as influences.

MPC: 1:25 Scale Model Kit - 1967 Pontiac GTO - Blue, 85+ Parts - Skill Level 2, Authentic Vehicle Building Kit, Replica Classic Car, Age 14+
  • V8 POWER: The model features a 400 cubic inch V8 engine, reflecting the muscle and power that defined the GTO's reputation.
  • DETAILED SUSPENSION & EXHAUST: The kit incorporates separate rear suspension and exhaust detailing, adding to the realism of the model.
  • BUCKET SEATS & CONSOLE: The model's interior features bucket seats and a floor shifter with a console, capturing the iconic look and feel of the GTO.
  • OPTIONAL SUPERCHARGER: For those seeking more power, the kit offers an optional supercharger, allowing you to customize your model.
  • CLEAR & COMPREHENSIVE INSTRUCTIONS: The included instructions are clear and user-friendly, making the kit accessible to modelers of different skill levels, from beginners to experienced hobbyists.

That distinction matters. The car is intended to evoke the compact, low-slung appearance of mid-century endurance racers, but Shoreline is not presenting it as a continuation or replica of a Porsche, Ferrari or Alfa Romeo. The visual appeal comes from the combination of a long, purposeful nose, a tight two-seat cockpit and the kind of enclosed bodywork associated with lightweight racing prototypes.

The unusual BMW-derived straight-six

The LM Coupe’s most distinctive mechanical feature is its engine. Carscoops reported that the car uses a 1.65-liter naturally aspirated inline-six believed to be derived from the engine family used in BMW’s K1600 motorcycle range. Shoreline describes it as a lightweight, high-revving inline-six rather than an untouched BMW production engine.

Reported targets are as much as 250 horsepower and a 10,000-rpm redline. Those numbers should be treated as development targets or reported figures, not independently verified production specifications. The company has not published an independent dyno result, durability record or final emissions specification for a customer-ready engine.

Shoreline says the engine and gearbox together weigh 225 pounds, or approximately 102 kilograms. That compact powertrain is central to the LM Coupe’s concept: rather than relying on displacement, turbocharging or a large modern engine, it is intended to deliver performance through low mass, high rotational speed and a more immediate mechanical character.

The gearbox is described as a six-speed manually operated sequential transmission. This is not the same interface as a conventional H-pattern manual. A sequential unit generally selects the next gear in order, allowing the driver to work through the ratios with a forward or backward movement, while the clutch and shift strategy depend on the final calibration and operating instructions.

Shoreline has also announced a preliminary agreement with Ed Pink Racing Engines for powertrain development and performance targets. That connection adds relevant race-engineering experience to the project, but it does not mean Ed Pink is supplying a standard consumer-compatible engine or that the final LM Coupe powertrain has completed production validation.

A lightweight chassis built around race-car ideas

The prototype uses a hand-built tubular spaceframe. Shoreline’s production plan adds bonded carbon panels around the steel-based architecture, a construction approach intended to provide a stiff, lightweight structure without requiring the company to manufacture a full carbon-fiber monocoque.

Carscoops described a target weight as low as 1,400 pounds, or about 635 kilograms. That is an ambitious target, not a confirmed production curb weight. The final figure will depend on the completed body structure, safety equipment, emissions hardware, fluids, cooling system, trim and any changes required for road registration.

If Shoreline comes close to that target, the LM Coupe would have a very high power-to-weight ratio even without the reported 250-horsepower output. More importantly, low mass would reduce the demands placed on the brakes, tires and suspension while allowing the car to respond quickly to steering and throttle inputs. Those are theoretical benefits of the proposed layout, not independent road-test findings.

Suspension, brakes and steering

At each corner, the LM Coupe uses adjustable double-wishbone suspension. Shoreline says the geometry was developed in collaboration with Formula 1 engineers and that the prototype uses four custom-valved Öhlins dampers. The design gives engineers more control over camber, roll center, damping and wheel movement than a simpler production suspension layout, although the quality of the final ride and handling will depend on calibration.

The prototype also has center-lock wheels and AP Racing calipers and rotors. These are serious motorsport-derived components, but the specification does not establish the exact production part numbers, tire sizes, service intervals or replacement-parts compatibility. A standard retail component carrying the Öhlins or AP Racing name should not automatically be assumed to fit the LM Coupe.

Steering is hydraulically assisted and based on a motorsport-derived rack. Shoreline says the rack has Le Mans Prototype and GT-racing origins, with 1.9 turns lock-to-lock. The company’s stated objective is analogue feedback through the steering wheel rather than the isolated or heavily filtered feel common in many modern performance cars.

Again, those are design specifications and development intentions. Until an independent road test is available, there are no reliable claims to make about steering weight, ride quality, cornering grip, braking distances or track performance.

An analogue cabin with almost no conventional digital layer

The cabin follows the same philosophy as the chassis. Published descriptions call for fixed carbon-fiber bucket seats, an adjustable pedal box and an adjustable steering wheel. This arrangement allows the driving position to be tailored to the occupant while keeping the seats themselves light and structurally simple.

Shoreline’s prototype description emphasizes metal switchgear, forged pedals, a wood-trimmed shifter and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Carscoops reported that the cabin has no infotainment screen and instead uses a magnetic phone mount. That does not make the LM Coupe a completely technology-free car; modern road equipment and regulatory systems may still be required. It does, however, signal that navigation, media and connectivity are not intended to dominate the driving environment.

The result is a deliberately narrow brief. The LM Coupe is not being positioned as a practical grand tourer with a large luggage area, configurable screens and extensive driver-assistance menus. Its appeal is supposed to come from the seating position, engine response, mechanical controls and direct interaction with the car.

Is Shoreline ready to build customer cars?

Shoreline says it is operating as a small-scale original-equipment manufacturer rather than simply presenting a one-off styling exercise. The company points to in-house engineering and a component-management system in which thousands of parts are assigned identities and tracked through inventory, quality-control and version-control processes.

That is meaningful evidence of manufacturing intent. A system that records part numbers, revisions and quality checks is more useful than a concept-car render because it addresses repeatability: the ability to build more than one vehicle with the same specification. It still does not prove that series production has started, that every component has passed validation or that the company has completed road-vehicle certification.

Shoreline’s public update said research and development was expected to continue through delivery of the first production vehicles at the end of 2026. Carscoops separately reported that the company hoped to begin customer deliveries in late 2026. TheArsenale, however, reported late-2027 first deliveries and annual production of 25 hand-built cars. Since those public timelines conflict, the LM Coupe’s delivery date should be described as unconfirmed rather than assigned to a single year.

The same caution applies to production volume, Founder Edition availability, customer deposits and price. No definitive public figure for those items was established in the available material.

The difficult part: making it legally deliverable

For a low-volume sports-car startup, building a working prototype is only one part of the challenge. Shoreline says it has developed a U.S.-customer registration strategy with help from a specialist who has more than a decade of experience registering low-volume bespoke vehicles. It also says it is expanding a dealer network for qualified buyers.

  • 1:25 scale, skill level 2, paint & glue required
  • 82 parts
  • Molded in white, clear, transparent red, and some chrome-plated parts
  • Black vinyl tires
  • Metal axle

That is a stated strategy, not confirmation that the LM Coupe is approved for unrestricted road use. Low production volume by itself does not automatically remove a vehicle from federal safety obligations. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s low-volume and replica-vehicle framework includes specific statutory and regulatory pathways for qualifying manufacturers, but the available public information does not establish which final federal route Shoreline will use.

Important open questions include:

  • What federal safety-certification or exemption pathway will apply to the finished car?
  • How will the final engine and exhaust system satisfy emissions requirements?
  • What documentation will accompany a customer vehicle for title and registration?
  • Will registration outcomes differ by state?
  • Who will provide warranty, service and replacement parts for the bespoke powertrain and chassis?
  • What final equipment will be added or changed before delivery?

A specialist registration plan can help, but it is not equivalent to a blanket guarantee that every LM Coupe can be registered in every U.S. state. Buyers would need written, vehicle-specific answers before committing money.

Why the LM Coupe matters

The LM Coupe is interesting because its retro styling is only the most visible part of the project. Shoreline is attempting to preserve several qualities that have largely disappeared from new sports cars: low mass, a naturally aspirated high-revving engine, manual driver involvement, hydraulic steering and a cabin with few digital distractions.

That approach also creates substantial risks. A small manufacturer must validate a specialized engine, meet modern safety and emissions requirements, source repeatable components, support customers and produce enough cars to justify its systems. A prototype can demonstrate the idea; delivered, certified cars will determine whether the idea works as a business and as a road vehicle.

Bottom line

Shoreline’s LM Coupe is a highly specialized California sports-car project with a stronger engineering story than a typical retro-styled concept. Its proposed BMW-derived straight-six, sequential transmission, lightweight tubular structure, double-wishbone suspension and analogue cabin give it a clear identity.

But the car’s most important milestones are still ahead. Final power, weight, price, production allocation, certification and customer-delivery timing have not been conclusively established. The LM Coupe will become a significant new collector sports car only if Shoreline can turn its prototype and production-control claims into certified, supportable customer vehicles.
