The Xyber is a high-power, off-road-use model with a stated maximum speed of 35 mph; Segway’s current product page recommends it for riders 18 and older. The Xafari is a step-through Class 2 cruiser with a 20 mph maximum speed. Segway’s range figures are test-condition maxima, not promises of everyday distance.
Two bikes, two different purposes
The Xyber takes a performance-oriented, dirt-bike-inspired approach, while the Xafari is a more conventional step-through cruiser. The key distinction is not just speed: their stated use and classification differ. Segway says the Xyber is for off-road use only; the Xafari is specified as a Class 2 e-bike.
Segway launched both at CES in January 2025 and opened preorders. At the time, coverage reported expected February deliveries and launch MSRPs of $2,999.99 for the Xyber and $2,399.99 for the Xafari. Those are historical launch details, not verified current prices or availability. TechCrunch reported the launch and pricing on January 7, 2025; Bicycle Retailer and Industry News reported that online orders were to ship to a customer-selected local dealer and that independent dealers were also taking preorders.
Is the Segway Xyber street legal?
Segway’s current Xyber page specifies a maximum speed of 35 mph for off-road use and says the bike is for off-road use only. It recommends the product for riders 18 and older and says riders are responsible for following applicable law. The page also notes that an app speed limiter is available. These statements do not establish that the Xyber is legal on public roads or bike paths in any particular jurisdiction.

At launch, TechCrunch described the Xyber as “unclassified” and not intended for public roadways or bike paths. Bicycle Retailer and Industry News reported Segway’s expectation at the time that a separate Class 2 version might arrive later in spring or early summer 2025; that launch-era plan does not verify whether such a version was subsequently released or what its specifications are. Check local rules and the exact model configuration before riding anywhere beyond private land. What the Xyber offers
The Xyber’s configuration changes its headline power, torque, and range. Segway lists the following figures on its product page, accessed in 2026:

Both range numbers are Segway test-condition maxima, not guaranteed riding distances. The product page’s headline figures should not be read as a prediction for a particular route, rider, or riding style. Segway’s Xyber page supplies the specifications and range qualification.
Other listed Xyber specifications include 20 × 5.0-inch tires, 110 mm of front suspension travel, 100 mm of rear travel, hydraulic disc brakes, a net weight of 138 lb, and a maximum payload of 396.8 lb. The product page describes it as an off-road-use model; its high speed and classification mean buyers should not assume it can be used like a typical classed e-bike.

What the Xafari offers—and how far it may go
The Xafari is a step-through Class 2 cruiser with a listed maximum speed of 20 mph. Segway specifies a 750 W rated motor, up to 80 Nm of torque, and a 936 Wh battery. It claims up to 88 miles of range, but that maximum came from a specific test: full battery, 75 kg (165 lb) load, 25°C (77°F), 12.5 mph, 20% pedal assist, and pavement. Segway says speed, starts and stops, ambient temperature, and other factors affect range, so everyday results may differ. Segway’s Xafari product page gives the specification and test conditions.
The Xafari has 26 × 3.0-inch tires, 80 mm of front travel, 70 mm of rear travel, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, a listed weight of 92.5 lb, and a maximum payload of 352 lb. Its listed connected features include Apple Find My, GPS, AirLock, cloud connectivity, software upgrades, and the Segway Mobility app. Feature availability, connectivity terms, and regional specifications can vary; consult the product information for the market where the bike is sold.

Choose the Xyber if
- Your priority is an off-road-use model with substantially higher stated power and speed.
- You understand that Segway describes it for off-road use only and that local law governs where it may be ridden.
- You can accommodate a 138 lb bike and want the option of one or two batteries.
Choose the Xafari if
- You want a step-through frame and a Class 2 model with a 20 mph maximum speed.
- You prefer its listed 92.5 lb weight and are evaluating range with the test conditions in mind.
- You value the connected features Segway lists, while checking regional availability and terms.
Launch coverage said the Xafari’s seat height, stem, handlebar, and display were adjustable for riders from 5 ft 1 in to 6 ft 2 in. Treat that as launch reporting rather than a substitute for checking current fit guidance or trying the bike. TechCrunch’s launch report described those adjustments.

What Segway said at launch
In a January 9, 2025 report, Powersports Business quoted Segway head of e-bikes Nick Howe: “With the official launch of the Xyber and Xafari, we are using technology to redefine the electric bike experience.” Powersports Business published the quote.
