Scout Motors says its first two vehicles are expected to start below $60,000 in the United States, but that is a projected entry price—not a final transaction price. Taxes, title, license, destination charges, options, premium features, and add-ons are excluded, and Scout says the figures may change before production.
The vehicles are the Scout Traveler, a rugged SUV, and the Scout Terra, its pickup counterpart. Scout is targeting initial production in 2027, while its consumer support information says first customer deliveries are expected in 2028. Both will be offered as battery-electric vehicles and as Harvester extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), which use a gasoline engine as a generator rather than mechanically driving the wheels.

A new Scout, not a simple vintage revival
Scout Motors is bringing back the Scout name as a new American truck-and-SUV brand. The company is not presenting the Traveler and Terra as reproductions of an old International Harvester vehicle. Instead, it is combining retro-influenced styling and traditional body-on-frame construction with electric drive, modern batteries, and an optional gasoline range-extending system.

Scout unveiled production-intent versions of the Traveler and Terra on October 24, 2024. They are intended for a mix of family transportation, work, outdoor recreation, towing, and off-road driving. That positioning puts Scout between conventional body-on-frame SUVs and pickups and newer electric trucks and utility vehicles.

Traveler and Terra at a glance
| Vehicle | Body style | Scout’s current projections | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scout Traveler | Rugged SUV | More than 7,000 pounds of maximum towing; payload approaching 2,000 pounds; more than 12 inches of ground clearance | Families and outdoor users who need enclosed cargo space, off-road ability, and meaningful towing capacity |
| Scout Terra | Pickup truck | 5.5-foot, or 66-inch, bed; more than 10,000 pounds of maximum towing; payload approaching 2,000 pounds | Buyers who need an open cargo bed for work, recreation, equipment, or towing |
These are Scout estimates, not final ratings. Towing and payload will depend on the selected powertrain, equipment, curb weight, tires, hitch configuration, and other factors. The final production owner’s manual and certification labels will matter more than the current headline figures.
What the Scout Traveler is supposed to be
The Traveler is the SUV of the pair. Its projected combination of more than 7,000 pounds of towing capacity, nearly 2,000 pounds of payload, and over 12 inches of ground clearance would give it unusually serious utility if those numbers survive production testing.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallScout has also highlighted a body-on-frame design, physical controls, accessory power, removable or configurable elements, and a rear tailgate concept. Those details point to a vehicle designed to be used outdoors rather than treated solely as a road-going family crossover. The configurable features could be useful for carrying bulky equipment or improving access to the cargo area, but their final operation, availability, and trim packaging have not been fully published.
The Traveler’s most important unresolved question is whether it can deliver that utility without becoming too heavy or too expensive. Battery-electric off-road vehicles can carry substantial battery mass, and towing can affect range significantly. Until Scout publishes curb weights, payload labels, battery specifications, and independent test results, the projected towing and range numbers should be treated as targets rather than a complete ownership picture.
What the Scout Terra adds
The Terra is the pickup version. Scout expects it to use a 5.5-foot bed, equivalent to 66 inches, which is a useful middle ground for recreational equipment and general truck use but not the same cargo format as a full-size pickup with a longer bed.
Scout projects more than 10,000 pounds of maximum towing capacity and payload approaching 2,000 pounds. If achieved, those figures would make the Terra relevant to buyers who tow trailers, boats, campers, or work equipment—not just shoppers looking for an electric lifestyle truck.
However, the headline towing number alone does not establish what the Terra will be like in practice. Buyers will need the final hitch rating, tongue-weight limit, payload label, trailer-brake requirements, cooling specifications, curb weight, wheel-and-tire combinations, and range when towing. Those details are not yet available.
The Terra’s final position against established gasoline and electric pickups also remains unsettled. Its advantages could include quiet electric drive, a body-on-frame layout, and a distinctive design. Its disadvantages could include weight, purchase price, charging time, reduced towing range, or limited service coverage. Those trade-offs cannot be judged fairly until Scout releases production specifications.

Why the projected price is not the price you will pay
Scout currently says U.S. entry-level retail pricing for both vehicles is expected to start under $60,000. That is useful as a positioning statement, but it should not be read as a guaranteed price for a well-equipped Traveler or Terra.
Scout specifically says the expected starting figure excludes:
- Taxes
- Title and license costs
- Fees and destination charges
- Premium features
- Options and accessories
The company also warns that pricing, options, and specifications may change before a vehicle is built. There is currently no complete MSRP ladder, destination charge, option list, trim walk, financing information, or final purchase contract for buyers to evaluate.
That makes “sub-$60,000” an expected base-price target rather than an out-the-door quote. The least expensive configuration may not include the powertrain, battery capacity, interior equipment, off-road hardware, towing equipment, or convenience features that attract buyers to the Scout concept. A reservation therefore does not lock in a $59,999 vehicle or protect a buyer from later option and price changes.
BEV versus Harvester EREV: how the two powertrains differ
Battery-electric Scout
The battery-electric Traveler and Terra will use a large battery pack and electric motors, with no gasoline engine needed for propulsion. Scout’s current manufacturer estimate is up to approximately 350 miles of range.
That is not an EPA-certified rating. Actual range will vary with temperature, speed, terrain, driving style, battery condition, wheel and tire equipment, payload, towing, and use of heating or air conditioning. Scout has not yet released final battery capacity, charging speed, connector details, adapter availability, or energy-consumption figures.
A BEV Scout should be the simpler choice for buyers who can charge reliably at home or work and who prioritize quiet, all-electric driving. It will also require more planning for long trips, especially when towing or traveling in areas with limited charging infrastructure. The practical ownership equation cannot be completed until the charging specifications and independent range tests are available.
Harvester extended-range electric vehicle
The Harvester system is an EREV. In plain language, the wheels are driven electrically, while a gasoline engine operates as an onboard generator. The engine recharges or supplies electricity to the high-voltage battery; it does not mechanically drive the wheels.
Scout currently projects approximately 150 miles of electric range for Harvester-equipped vehicles and more than 500 miles of total combined range. The first figure describes the expected battery-powered portion. The second includes the additional distance made possible by gasoline used by the generator.

- Interesting pull back car: Put the car on the ground, press and hold the car body, then pull back, it will drive forward. Very funny.
That makes Harvester different from a conventional hybrid, in which an engine can mechanically contribute to driving the wheels. It is also different from a plug-in hybrid if the gasoline system is being used solely to generate electricity for electric propulsion. Scout has not yet disclosed the generator’s engine size, fuel-tank capacity, fuel economy, maintenance schedule, or detailed operating strategy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe EREV approach is the centerpiece of Scout’s attempt to address a major objection to electric trucks and SUVs: long-distance travel without dependable access to fast charging. A Harvester owner would still get electric drive, but could refuel with gasoline when the battery’s electric range is exhausted. The trade-off is that the vehicle retains an engine, fuel-system components, exhaust equipment, and the associated maintenance. It will also not provide unlimited electric driving; the projected battery-only range is about 150 miles.
Scout says more than 85% of reservations were for Harvester-equipped vehicles as of March 6, 2026. The company intends to produce EREVs first to match that demand. That reservation mix is not the same as a final sales mix, but it helps explain why the range-extender version currently appears to be the launch priority.
When will Scout vehicles be built and delivered?
Scout’s reservation information currently targets initial production in 2027, subject to change. Scout’s support information gives the more useful expectation for consumers: first customer deliveries are expected in 2028.
Those dates describe different milestones. Scout plans to build initial validation vehicles in 2026, with validation work continuing into 2027. Validation vehicles are used to develop and test the product; they are not ordinary retail deliveries. A 2027 production target therefore does not mean that a customer placing a reservation today should expect to drive away in 2027.

Scout currently says the Traveler with the Harvester powertrain is expected to be produced first, with first customer deliveries anticipated in 2028. It has not published a complete configuration-by-configuration sequence for the Terra, the battery-electric versions, or every trim.
Production is planned for Scout’s Production Center in Blythewood, South Carolina. The vehicles are being engineered at Scout’s Innovation Center in Novi, Michigan. Scout’s January 2026 update described the South Carolina project as a more-than-$2 billion investment on a site exceeding 1,100 acres. It also described a supplier park for parts, batteries, and accessories, including an additional $300 million investment. The facility is projected eventually to produce up to 200,000 vehicles annually and create at least 4,000 permanent jobs.
How reservations work
Scout accepts a $100 U.S. reservation fee to hold a place in line. The reservation is fully refundable until Scout advances it to a configured vehicle order. Once it becomes a configured vehicle order, Scout’s stated policy says the amount is non-refundable.
Scout says U.S. refunds typically take three to five business days. The important practical point is that a reservation is not a fixed-price purchase order. It does not establish a final vehicle price, guarantee a particular trim, confirm a delivery date, or necessarily preserve the exact specifications shown when the reservation was placed.

Before reserving, a buyer should be comfortable with the following:
- The timing is provisional. Production is targeted for 2027 and customer deliveries are expected in 2028, but both can change.
- The powertrain choice may come before the full data. Scout has not released every final BEV and Harvester specification.
- The headline price is not locked. Budget for destination, taxes, fees, options, and accessories in addition to the expected starting price.
- The refund deadline matters. Confirm whether the reservation is still refundable before allowing it to advance to a configured order.
- State procedures may differ. Registration, delivery, service, and direct-sales rules vary by state.
Will Scout sell directly to customers?
Scout says it intends to sell directly to customers and, as of April 2, 2026, was not pursuing franchise agreements with dealers. Customers in states that restrict direct-to-consumer automotive sales can still reserve online, according to Scout, with the company handling the reservation-to-delivery details.
That does not answer every practical question. The exact delivery process, registration arrangements, service-center coverage, warranty terms, financing options, and state-by-state purchase procedures have not been fully published. A reservation may be available nationally online even when the eventual retail, service, or delivery experience differs by state.

Should you reserve a Scout Traveler or Terra?
A reservation may make sense for someone who specifically wants Scout’s combination of rugged styling, body-on-frame construction, electric drive, and an available gasoline generator. The $100 commitment is relatively small, and it provides a place in the company’s intended ordering process while the product develops.
It is less sensible to reserve one merely because the vehicle is advertised as a sub-$60,000 electric truck or SUV. That price is not final, the projected range is not EPA-certified, and delivery is not expected until 2028. Buyers who need a truck or SUV for a firm date should treat Scout as a future option rather than a currently available replacement.
The decision also depends on powertrain priorities:
- Choose the BEV conceptually if dependable charging is available, all-electric driving is the priority, and the final range and charging figures meet your needs.
- Consider Harvester conceptually if long-distance flexibility matters more than eliminating gasoline and you accept the added complexity of a generator system.
- Wait before choosing either if towing, payload, charging time, fuel economy, service access, or a strict purchase budget is central to the decision.
It is also too early to purchase Scout-specific charging, cargo, recovery, or towing equipment. Scout has not finalized the connector, charging rate, production accessory catalog, hitch specifications, or compatibility information. Generic equipment may not fit the production vehicles, and final towing requirements could affect which accessories are safe or legal to use.
The larger bet Scout is making
Scout’s strategy is unusual because it does not treat electrification and traditional truck design as mutually exclusive. The Traveler and Terra are being developed as substantial, body-on-frame off-road vehicles, but their primary propulsion is electric. The Harvester option then attempts to solve the charging and range concerns that are especially important for people who tow, travel far from urban charging networks, or cannot easily install a charger.

The approach could give Scout a broader audience than a battery-only launch. It could also create a complicated product: a heavy off-road vehicle with a large battery, an electric drive system, and—on Harvester models—a gasoline generator. Weight, packaging, price, efficiency, maintenance, and towing range will determine whether the concept works better in real use than it looks in a presentation.
For now, the most accurate description is that Scout Motors has announced an ambitious pair of production-intent vehicles with promising projected capabilities. It has not yet delivered independently verified proof of those capabilities or a final purchase proposition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Scout Traveler or Terra actually available for purchase now?
No. Scout is accepting $100 U.S. reservations, but the vehicles are not yet in normal customer production. Initial production is targeted for 2027, and first customer deliveries are expected in 2028, subject to change.

No. Scout’s expected U.S. entry price excludes taxes, title, license, fees, premium features, and add-ons. Final MSRP, destination charges, and option pricing have not been published.
Is the Scout Harvester a conventional hybrid?
No. Scout describes Harvester as an extended-range electric vehicle. Its gasoline engine operates as an onboard generator and does not mechanically drive the wheels.
Can a Scout reservation be refunded?
Scout says the $100 reservation is fully refundable until it is advanced to a configured vehicle order. After conversion to that order, it becomes non-refundable under Scout’s stated policy. U.S. refunds typically take three to five business days.
Which Scout will launch first?
Scout currently expects the Traveler with the Harvester powertrain to be produced first, with first customer deliveries anticipated in 2028. A complete launch sequence for the Terra and battery-electric versions has not been published.
The Bottom Line
Scout Motors’ Traveler SUV and Terra pickup could start below $60,000 in the United States, but that figure is only an expected base price. Scout projects up to about 350 miles for the BEV versions, approximately 150 electric miles and more than 500 total miles for Harvester models, plus serious towing and payload capability. None of those projections should be treated as final until EPA ratings, production weights, pricing, charging specifications, and independent testing arrive.
The sensible expectation is production targeted for 2027 and first customer deliveries in 2028. A $100 reservation can hold a place in line, but it is not a fixed-price order or a guaranteed delivery date.
