The Scamp X is a ruggedized version of Scamp’s compact fiberglass egg trailer, with an articulating hitch and heavier-duty running gear intended for rougher terrain than a conventional small travel trailer. Reported specifications put its base weight at 1,986 lb and its GVWR at 3,500 lb; a 2025 launch report listed a starting price of US$28,495. Those figures are useful starting points, not a substitute for a current quote or a loaded-trailer and tow-vehicle check.
What is the Scamp X?
The Scamp X keeps the compact molded-fiberglass trailer concept and adds equipment aimed at travel on uneven roads and rougher routes. Independent launch coverage by New Atlas characterized it as a ruggedized, all-terrain take on the familiar egg-shaped trailer; The Point News highlighted its bonded dual-tub fiberglass construction and upgraded running gear.

That positioning means improved rough-terrain capability, not proof that the trailer is suited to every off-road route. The available specifications do not establish ground clearance, tire dimensions, approach or departure angles, or performance on difficult trails. An articulating hitch can allow more movement between tow vehicle and trailer on uneven ground, but it does not by itself make a trailer rock-crawling equipment.

Specifications and included equipment can vary by configuration; confirm what is included on the trailer being quoted. How much does the Scamp X cost?
The Point News reported a US$28,495 starting price in 2025. Treat that as a reported starting reference rather than a guaranteed current transaction price: Scamp’s official site directs prospective buyers to request its 2026 price guide instead of publishing a complete live configuration price list. Ask Scamp to confirm the current base configuration, selected options, taxes, delivery costs, and availability in your region.
Floor plans, options and power choices
Launch coverage reports two floor plans, TRK and ALT, with a U-shaped rear dinette that converts to the main bed. Verify the layout and sleeping arrangement on the specific unit, especially if you need a particular number of beds or a permanent sleeping space.

Ask for an itemized quote that separates standard equipment from options; the listed equipment alone does not establish how long the trailer can operate without shore power.

What makes the Scamp X a fiberglass trailer?
Scamp’s owner manual describes the trailer as a fiberglass body fastened to a steel frame. It also describes an FRP open-mold manufacturing process, a gelcoat exterior, and double-bubble foil insulation with an approximate R-value of 15. The molded shell is central to the Scamp’s lightweight egg-trailer design, but those construction details do not establish durability on every surface or in every climate.

Is the Scamp X suitable for off-road travel?
Its articulating hitch and Timbren HD 3500 suspension are evidence of a setup intended to handle rougher terrain than a basic road-only trailer. But “off-road” covers a wide range of conditions: a graded forest road is not the same as a narrow, deeply rutted track or a rocky trail. The available information does not establish the Scamp X’s ground clearance or tire specification, so buyers should not infer that it can safely follow a tow vehicle over any obstacle.
Before choosing a route, compare the trailer’s verified dimensions and underbody clearance with the terrain, and ask the dealer or Scamp about the exact running gear and limits of the configuration you will buy. Allow for the trailer’s loaded weight, not just its base weight, when assessing both tow-vehicle capacity and terrain suitability.

What tow vehicle does it require?
The reported 1,986-lb base weight is not the same as the trailer’s weight ready to travel. Water, propane, options, personal cargo, and other equipment add weight; the 3,500-lb GVWR is the reported maximum loaded trailer rating, not a recommended towing target for every vehicle. The arithmetic difference between the reported GVWR and base weight is 1,514 lb, but that figure is not a confirmed cargo allowance: the sources do not establish how the base-weight figure treats options or other configuration-specific equipment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Check the tow vehicle’s trailer-weight and tongue-weight ratings, as well as any applicable limits in its owner’s manual.
- Compare those limits with the Scamp X as actually configured and loaded, rather than relying on its base weight alone.
- Account for passengers and cargo in the tow vehicle, and follow local towing and braking requirements.
- Do not use the rear receiver to tow another trailer; Scamp’s 2022 manual reserves it for bicycle or utility racks and sets a 250-lb rating.
Parts support and fiberglass care
Scamp’s official parts store lists 17 fiberglass body products across its trailer range, including 13-, 16-, and 19-foot doors, gravel shields, wheel wells, sink covers, hardware kits, fiberglass panels, storage covers, and a closet access door. The listed prices on that current parts page range from US$8.25 to US$650. That catalogue is evidence of factory parts availability, but it does not guarantee that every item will be in stock or that each part fits the Scamp X; check compatibility and current pricing with Scamp before ordering.
The owner manual notes that sunlight can cause gelcoat to chalk or oxidize. It recommends waxing, covering the trailer, or storing it indoors to reduce deterioration; use fiberglass-safe polishing products when maintaining the exterior. The manual’s care guidance concerns appearance and surface upkeep, not a promise of a particular service life.
Quick Recap
What to verify before ordering
- Get a current, itemized price and confirm which equipment is included versus optional.
- Ask for the loaded weight and tongue weight of the specific configuration, then compare them with your vehicle’s ratings.
- Confirm ground clearance, tires, running gear, and route suitability for the terrain you actually plan to travel.
- Review the TRK or ALT layout in person or through current factory specifications, including bed conversion and storage needs.
- Confirm the rear receiver’s rack-only use and 250-lb rating if you plan to carry bicycles or other equipment.
