It is not the only kind of miniature engine, though. Other options include static replicas and one-off artisan builds, so check whether you want a functioning engine, a display piece, or a model of a complete motorcycle.
What is the Cison FG-VT9?
The Cison FG-VT9 is described as a working miniature V-twin, not a die-cast display model. The 2024 TopSpeed-attributed article reprinted by Vintage Motorcycle News says it is a four-stroke engine styled after a Harley-Davidson Panhead and that it runs with a characteristic idle sound. That description comes from the article, not a current Cison specification sheet or a Harley-Davidson product listing.
The reprint gives these specifications:
- Displacement: 9cc
- Output: 0.8 hp
- Bore and stroke: 16.67 x 21mm
- Redline: 8,000 rpm
The same article reported a $599.99 price through EngineDIY at publication time. Treat that as historical, not a current offer: the cited article does not establish today’s price, stock, or whether the engine remains available. Read the Vintage Motorcycle News reprint.
How do the miniature Harley engine options differ?
These examples serve different purposes. The Cison is presented as a running engine; the Panhead and artisan builds are miniature engine projects or display pieces; Harley-Davidson’s Series 44 assortment models whole motorcycles.

What makes the artisan engines different?
Roger Butzen’s 1/3-scale Evolution
The Miniature Engineering Craftsmanship Museum says Roger Butzen built his Harley-Davidson Evolution engine in 1/3 scale in 2000. Its gasoline fuel, spark ignition, and internal oil-pump lubrication make it a detailed engineering project, rather than just a shaped display casting. The museum lists it at 18 inches long, 12 inches wide, 16 inches high, and 25 pounds. See the museum’s Butzen exhibit record.
Jerry Kieffer’s 1/6-scale Knucklehead
The museum describes Kieffer’s Knucklehead as made from bar stock without castings. Several components—the oil pump, sending unit, distributor, generator, and regulator—are functional. How to choose the right Harley-Davidson miniature
- Choose a running miniature if you specifically want a working engine and are prepared to confirm current specifications, availability, price, and operating requirements with the seller. The Cison FG-VT9 is the directly relevant example in the cited article.
- Choose a static engine replica if display and finish matter more than operation. The 1/6-scale 1965 Panhead listing describes a resin model with hand finishing, aging, a stand, and no assembly requirement.
- Look at artisan builds as engineering exhibits if the appeal is precision machining or functional miniature components. The Butzen and Kieffer records document individual projects, not retail products.
- Choose a complete motorcycle model if you want a Harley-Davidson collectible rather than an engine by itself. The Series 44 is a 1:18 die-cast motorcycle assortment.
