PerthNow reported on 3 April 2025 that Sam Kerr rode a Lime e-bike without a helmet in Double Bay, Sydney, on Wednesday night, ahead of the Matildas’ Friday match against Korea Republic. What the report said about helmet requirements
PerthNow quoted Transport NSW guidance stating: “Bicycle riders must wear an approved helmet securely fitted and fastened.” It also relayed Lime’s Sydney guidance: “By law, you must use a helmet, either your personal one or an attached Lime helmet. If you find a vehicle without a helmet and don’t have your own with you, we recommend using the app to find another vehicle nearby.”
Those are the statements as quoted in PerthNow’s report, not an independent check of current legal guidance. The practical requirement described there is an approved helmet that is securely fitted and fastened.

Why Kerr was in Sydney
PerthNow reported that Kerr was in Sydney ahead of the Matildas’ Friday-evening match with Korea Republic and was expected to attend in a non-playing capacity. The outlet said she was recovering from an ACL injury sustained at a Chelsea training camp in January 2024.
In the same April 2025 report, interim coach Tom Sermanni said Kerr had not been fully cleared by Chelsea and was focused on returning to play for the club before becoming available for the Matildas. These comments describe her status at the time; they do not establish her present fitness or availability.
