No: Saab AB has not announced a new Saab car. The “Saab Is Officially Back: As A New Electric Car” headline dates to 2017 and referred to electric cars built by National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), not a return of Saab AB to passenger-car manufacturing. Saab AB says the former Saab Automobile business went defunct in 2011 and that it no longer manufactures automobiles.
What the 2017 headline was about
CarBuzz published “Saab Is Officially Back: As A New Electric Car” in 2017. Its search-result description said the first NEVS 9-3 models were rolling off a production line in China. That is a historical report about NEVS and its electric-car project, not evidence of a new launch in 2026 or of production continuing today. CarBuzz’s 2017 article
Saab AB and the former car business are different
Saab Automobile AB, the passenger-car business, filed for bankruptcy in December 2011. Saab AB—the company that continues to use the Saab name—is a separate defence and security company. Its business includes solutions for air, land, naval, security and civil aerospace applications. Saab AB’s 2018 explainer makes the distinction directly: “Saab cars may be gone, but Saab lives on.” Saab AB: “Do Saab still make cars?”
Saab AB answered the question again in a December 2024 U.S. general-information document: “While we no longer manufacture the beloved automobiles, Saab has a long history of manufacturing high quality products that keep people and society safe including aircraft, submarines, air traffic control equipment, and radars.” Saab, Inc. general information, December 2024

What Saab AB’s agreement with NEVS said
In 2012, Saab AB announced that NEVS—National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB—had signed a licence to use the Saab name on future electric cars. Saab AB identified NEVS as the car-producing company; it did not describe itself as the maker. The announcement also said NEVS would not use the then-current Saab brand symbol, including the griffin. Is NEVS making Saab-branded cars now?
The historical licence announcement and Saab AB’s later statements do not establish NEVS’s present-day production, ownership or licence status. They are not enough to conclude that NEVS is currently making cars, that the 2012 licence remains in force, or that Saab AB has restarted its car business. No current Saab-branded electric-car model is established by these sources.
