The Saab 9-3 Aero was a performance-focused trim, but its engine and equipment varied by model year and market. In Saab Canada’s 2007 brochure, the Aero is specified with a 250-hp 2.8-litre turbocharged V6, a sport-tuned chassis and distinctive cabin and exterior details. That specification is a useful example—not a description of every Aero or a guarantee of what any used car still has.
What makes a Saab 9-3 Aero different?
Saab Canada described the Aero in its 2007 brochure as “Our top-of-the-line high-performance model with a unique sports interior designed to offer the most intense Saab driving experience.” That is the manufacturer’s period marketing language, rather than an independent assessment. The brochure’s equipment list helps show how Saab positioned the Canadian-market Aero for that model year.
- A 2.8-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine rated at 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.
- A lowered, sport-tuned chassis and 17-inch alloy wheels.
- Dual sport exhaust pipes and aerodynamic bodywork.
- Sports seats with enhanced side bolstering and an Aero sport steering wheel.
The brochure also lists safety equipment including stability control, ABS, electronic brake-force distribution, front active head restraints, airbags and a side-impact protection structure. This is historical equipment information, not evidence of present-day safety performance or the equipment on every car wearing an Aero badge. Saab notes that specifications and equipment can vary. Which engine is in the 2007 Saab 9-3 Aero?
In the 2007 Canadian brochure, the Aero is listed with the 2.8-litre turbo V6, rated by Saab at 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured performance results.

The same brochure lists a 2.0-litre turbo elsewhere in the 9-3 range, rated at 210 hp and 221 lb-ft. It is a separate range engine, not the engine Saab specifies for the 2007 Canadian Aero. The brochure lists a standard six-speed manual for the model range and automatic choices, with configurations varying by trim and market; it does not establish a single transmission for every Aero.
Do not apply the 2007 Canadian figures to other model years or countries. For a specific car, confirm its year, original market, engine and transmission using the VIN and vehicle documentation.

Is a Saab 9-3 Aero a good used car?
There is not enough evidence here to give every 9-3 Aero a blanket reliability rating or to estimate ownership costs. Condition and configuration matter: two cars with the same badge may differ by year, market, engine, transmission, options, service history and current mechanical state. The brochure describes a new car as specified at the time; it cannot tell you how a particular used example was maintained or modified.
SaabParts’ owner-resource library is useful for checking year- and engine-specific documentation. It lists manuals for multiple years, a VIN breakdown, drivetrain-fluid guidance and technical bulletins. One listed resource concerns coolant leaks at turbocharger coolant lines on 2006–2009 Aero cars with the B284 engine. That is a reason to check for relevant repair records and inspect the hardware—not evidence that all such cars develop a leak, or an estimate of how often it occurs. SaabParts United States’ Owner Resource Guide also lists other resources whose titles are scoped to particular vehicles, including low-coolant messages, cold-start misfires on specified B207R cars, ignition-switch-module instructions and Bluetooth pairing trouble on 2009–2011 cars. Do not assume those topics apply to every Aero.

What to check before buying a Saab 9-3 Aero
- Confirm the car’s identity. Match its VIN and documentation to the model year, original market, trim, engine and transmission. Check the body style, options and drivetrain configuration rather than relying on the Aero badge or a seller’s description alone.
- Review maintenance and repair records. Look for documented servicing and repairs relevant to the exact engine and year, including any work on turbocharger coolant lines where applicable.
- Arrange a specialist inspection. Ask a qualified Saab-experienced technician to assess the car’s mechanical condition, warning lights, cooling system and turbo-related hardware. A resource-library bulletin is an inspection prompt, not a diagnosis of the car in front of you.
- Check that the information and parts fit this car. Use manuals and technical resources for the correct year and configuration, and verify parts fitment and local availability before relying on them. A parts resource library does not establish that a particular part is available nearby or that a used car is healthy.
How to compare two 9-3 Aero listings
Compare like with like instead of treating “Aero” as one fixed specification. Start with model year and original market, then compare engine, transmission, front- or all-wheel-drive configuration where relevant, body style, options, maintenance documentation and current condition. Saab’s 2007 Canadian brochure is a dated reference for that particular market and model year; it cannot rank all Aero versions or establish that one is universally the best choice.
