Rolls-Royce unveiled Project Nightingale on 14 April 2026 as the first car in its invitation-only Coachbuild Collection. It is a two-seat, open-top electric model planned for a limited run of 100 cars, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028. The company has not yet disclosed its price, battery capacity, power output, range or acceleration.
What is Rolls-Royce Project Nightingale?
Project Nightingale is a coachbuilt, fully electric convertible designed for two people. Rolls-Royce describes it as a production concept and the debut model in its Coachbuild Collection, a programme for highly exclusive, individually commissioned cars. The name and styling draw on the marque’s 16EX and 17EX experimental cars from 1928. Those cars inform Nightingale’s long, low torpedo form, while the contemporary design follows Streamline Moderne principles: smooth, disciplined surfaces and a clear, uninterrupted profile.
How many will be built, and when do deliveries begin?
Rolls-Royce plans to build 100 client cars worldwide. The company says deliveries are scheduled to begin from 2028; that is a target timing, not a confirmation that all cars will reach customers in that year. As an invitation-only commission, the car is not presented as a model available for routine retail ordering.

What are the announced dimensions and distinctive details?
At 5.76 metres long, Project Nightingale has the imposing proportions expected of a Rolls-Royce coachbuilt car. It rides on 24-inch wheels and features a Piano Boot: a sideways-opening luggage compartment that gives the rear of the car a distinctive, carefully choreographed opening motion. Why make it electric?
Rolls-Royce says the near-silent electric drivetrain supports a serene open-air experience. It also changes the design possibilities at the front: without the cooling demands of a large combustion engine, designers can shape the nose without relying on the same large cooling intakes.

That rationale is not a substitute for published technical specifications. Rolls-Royce has not announced the car’s battery capacity, motor output, range or acceleration, so comparisons based on those figures are not yet possible.
How is Rolls-Royce testing the car?
In a September 2026 update, Rolls-Royce described a development programme spanning 350 collective weeks of testing. The programme covers climates from the Arctic Circle to Arabian deserts and includes 1,430 hours of aerodynamic modelling and wind-tunnel testing. At a private facility, the car is tested at speeds up to 155 mph. Rolls-Royce also says the Piano Boot is cycled open and closed up to 15,000 times. How is Project Nightingale different from the Spectre?
Both are electric Rolls-Royces, but Project Nightingale is presented as a two-seat, open-top coachbuilt commission with a worldwide limit of 100 client cars. Its defining distinctions are its convertible body, bespoke Coachbuild Collection status and 1920s experimental-car design references. Rolls-Royce has not published Nightingale-specific output, range or price figures, and Spectre specifications should not be assumed to apply to it.
