The Rolls-Royce Phantom Goldfinger is a one-of-one Phantom Extended commissioned as a tribute to the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger. It is not the car driven in the film: that was Auric Goldfinger’s 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Sedanca de Ville. The modern commission reinterprets the movie’s gold-smuggling story through bespoke details including a hidden 18-carat gold bar, a Furka Pass map and a 007 boot-floor projection.
What is the Rolls-Royce Phantom Goldfinger?
Rolls-Royce announced Phantom Goldfinger on 25 October 2024 as a one-of-one Phantom Extended marking the 60th anniversary of Goldfinger. The James Bond 007 website also describes it as a unique commission inspired by the Phantom III in the film. Its special features are bespoke references for this individual car, not a standard Phantom trim or evidence that the car is currently available to buy. Rolls-Royce’s Phantom Goldfinger collection page and the official 007 announcement describe the commission.

Which Rolls-Royce did Goldfinger drive in the film?
In the film’s story, Auric Goldfinger’s henchman Oddjob drives a 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Sedanca de Ville across Europe. The movie imagines its bodywork concealing two tonnes of solid 18-carat gold, smuggled from England over the Furka Pass into Switzerland; Goldfinger’s smelting plant then melts the panels into bars. That extraordinary gold body is a plot device, not a factual description of the real Phantom III.
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ 2024 account identifies the Phantom III as the marque’s first V12-powered car: its 7.3-litre engine produced 165 bhp, compared with 120 bhp for the Phantom II, a 37.5% increase according to the company. The film car’s registration, “AU 1,” refers to gold’s chemical symbol; Rolls-Royce says the registration was later transferred to other Rolls-Royce cars. In a statement carried in the same 19 September 2024 release, Rolls-Royce chief executive Chris Brownridge called the Phantom III “the final motor car to be developed by our visionary founder, Sir Henry Royce, before he passed away in 1933.” Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ 2024 anniversary release is the source for these historical and technical details.

How the new Phantom translates the film into design
Exterior, golf and Bond references
The modern car takes its yellow tone from the Phantom III and pairs yellow with black in a two-tone finish. It rides on 21-inch disc wheels. A gold-plated golf putter is fitted at the lower boot lid, while opening the boot triggers a 007 logo projection onto the carpet—a nod to Bond’s tracking device in the film. These are commission-specific details described by Rolls-Royce, not standard equipment.
Furka Pass map and star ceiling
The Gallery artwork is a three-dimensional contour map of the Furka Pass, made from treated stainless steel with gold-plated details. Rolls-Royce says the work took a year to develop and required ten complete prototypes. The Starlight Headliner depicts the sky above the pass on 11 July 1964, which the manufacturer identifies as the final day of filming that scene in Switzerland. Its 719 stars and eight shooting stars were hand-fitted.
Gold hidden in the cabin
A redesigned space between the front seats conceals a vault. Inside is an illuminated, solid 18-carat gold bar shaped as a stylized Phantom Speedform. The Spirit of Ecstasy also plays on the film’s concealed-gold theme: Rolls-Royce says it is made of solid silver and plated in 18-carat gold.
The picnic tables combine Royal Walnut with a 0.1 mm-thick 22-carat gold inlay depicting a fictional map of the Fort Knox bullion reserve. Rolls-Royce says this feature took six months and three prototypes to create. The map is a reference to the film’s fictional plot, not a real bullion-reserve document.

Is the Phantom Goldfinger for sale?
The sources establish a one-of-one Bespoke commission, not a production model available for general order. They do not establish a purchase price, the owner’s identity or the car’s resale status. Rolls-Royce’s published features describe this specific commission; they should not be treated as a list of equipment available on every Phantom.
