Its defining change is the calibre 4132 movement: unlike the standard Daytona’s 12-hour chronograph counter, it can count elapsed hours across 24 hours, echoing the race’s duration.
What makes this Daytona a Le Mans centenary watch?
The 2023 watch is a specific centenary version of the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona, not simply a standard Daytona with a commemorative name. Rolex gave it an 18 ct white-gold Oyster case, a black Cerachrom bezel with a red ceramic “100” on its tachymetric scale, a bright black dial with white counters, a transparent case back and an Oyster bracelet. Rolex’s June 2023 announcement ties the red “100” directly to the race’s 100th anniversary.
Rolex introduced the Cosmograph Daytona in 1963 as a chronograph designed for motor-racing professionals. The Le Mans race began in 1923, and Rolex says it has served as the event’s Official Timepiece since 2001. Those dates give the centenary edition its context: a Daytona linked to a landmark endurance-racing event, rather than a new collection unrelated to the model’s racing history. What is different about the Le Mans Daytona’s chronograph?
The main technical distinction is calibre 4132. Rolex says it adapts calibre 4131 so the chronograph’s hour counter can register up to 24 hours rather than the usual 12. That extended range is the practical and symbolic link to a race run over 24 hours; it does not mean the watch’s ordinary time display has changed to a 24-hour format.

Rolex also identifies the movement’s Chronergy escapement, Paraflex shock absorbers, Rolex Côtes de Genève bridge decoration and an 18 ct yellow-gold cut-out oscillating weight. The visible case back lets the wearer see the movement, unlike the case-back design described for the standard Daytona line. Rolex’s general Cosmograph Daytona user guide lists a 40 mm Oyster case, 100 m water resistance, chronograph counters and a tachymetric bezel. Treat those as general Daytona specifications, not as confirmed centenary-edition specifications: the guide is not evidence that every figure applies to this special version.

Was the watch given to the 2023 Le Mans winners the same model?
Rolex’s race report says Tom Kristensen presented the winning drivers with specially engraved Cosmograph Daytona watches. It describes that podium presentation separately from the centenary model announcement; the reviewed material does not establish that the engraved presentation watches were the same watch as the white-gold, calibre 4132 centenary version. Ferrari AF Corse No. 51 won the overall race.
There is also a distinction between the pre-race forecast and the post-race report on attendance: Rolex’s June announcement expected 300,000 spectators, while its report after the event gave 325,000. The former was a projection; the latter was the reported figure for the centenary race.

The official announcement establishes that Rolex revealed the watch in June 2023, but it does not establish current production status, current availability, price, reference number or production quantity.
