Its producer, the Rochester Automobile Dealers Association, said the event was no longer economically viable; organizers also cited attendance that remained below pre-pandemic levels in the four years before the decision.
Why is the Rochester Auto Show being discontinued?
The Rochester Automobile Dealers Association, which produces the show, said putting it on was no longer economically viable, Spectrum News reported on October 5, 2026. Organizers also told local television that consumers now have many ways to get information before buying a car, while staging an auto show is very expensive, according to Carscoops’ October 2026 account.
The official Rochester International Auto Show website dates the event’s history to 1908. Its discontinuation ends a long-running local event, but the available reporting does not give a more specific financial breakdown of the decision.
What role did attendance play?
Carscoops reported that attendance remained below pre-pandemic levels over the four years before the decision. The sources reviewed do not publish annual attendance counts, so the size of the decline cannot be quantified from the available figures.

#1 Best Overall
The 2026 show had more than 150 vehicles on display, Carscoops reported. That is a vehicle count, not a count of visitors, and does not establish how many people attended.
What did organizers say to exhibitors and shoppers?
In a statement reproduced on the official show website, organizers thanked exhibitors, sponsors, and community partners for helping make the event an annual experience for Rochester-area consumers. The statement also invited shoppers to visit the local franchised dealerships that produce the show for help with their next vehicle purchase.
Rank #2
Does this signal a broader decline in auto shows?
Not on the evidence available here. The reporting addresses the Rochester event’s economics and attendance history, but provides no comparative attendance data for other shows. The Rochester closure should therefore be understood as a local decision, not proof that auto shows generally are losing audiences.
