The Roam Air is an electric motorcycle developed by Kenya-based Roam, but the often-cited US$1,500 price is a 2024 base-price figure—not a current offer confirmed on Roam’s product page. Roam currently advertises up to 80 km of range per battery, up to 160 km with two batteries, a 90 km/h top speed and a 250 kg payload. Those are manufacturer specifications, and actual range depends on riding conditions.
What is the Roam Air?
The Roam Air is an electric motorcycle marketed by Roam, a Kenya-based company. Roam presents the current Air as a motorcycle for passenger, cargo and delivery use, with selectable Eco, Standard, Power and Reverse modes. Its product page also describes real-time battery, location and performance data. These are company descriptions; they are not independent road-test findings.
The Air has evolved through multiple generations. Roam announced Gen 2 in June 2025 and Gen 3 in April 2026, so generation-specific claims should not be treated as interchangeable.
How much does the Roam Air cost?
A 2024 Roam profile lists US$1,500 as the Air’s base selling price. That is a historical figure, not a verified current retail price: Roam’s current product page does not state a price. The older figure also does not establish which generation, battery configuration, market taxes or purchase terms it covered. Roam’s page names M-KOPA, Watu, Fortune Credit and Mogo as financing partners and describes pay-as-you-go options, with upfront deposits starting at KES 10,000. How fast is it, and how far can it travel?
Roam lists a 90 km/h top speed, 55 Nm peak torque, 3,000 W rated power and a 72 V battery system. It also lists 0–60 km/h acceleration in 6.9 seconds. These are advertised specifications, not independently verified performance results. Roam Air specifications.
Roam says the Air can travel up to 80 km on one battery, or up to 160 km with two. The company notes that terrain, riding style and tyre pressure affect range, so the advertised maximum should not be treated as a guaranteed distance for a commute, delivery route or passenger trip. Plan around the single-battery figure if you will ride with one battery, and leave room for conditions to reduce the actual distance.

Roam lists vehicle weight as 129/149 kg and maximum payload as 250 kg. The product page does not explain the weight variants in the cited specification, so confirm the configuration for the motorcycle on offer. Payload is a maximum rating, not a promise that range or handling will remain unchanged when carrying passengers or cargo. Roam Air specifications and FAQ.

Roam says the Air includes a 10A portable charger that can use a standard wall socket; its product page gives about four hours for a standard charge. That offers a home-charging route where a suitable socket is available, but the page does not establish that every home installation or local electrical supply is suitable.
Roam’s April 16, 2026 Gen 3 battery announcement separately claims charging from 20% to 80% in under 40 minutes. That faster interval is specific to the Gen 3 battery claim and is not the same measure as a standard charge to full. Roam also says its Hubs provide fast charging, battery rentals, maintenance, support and updates; access depends on location, and coverage is not established for every area. What changed with Gen 3?
In its 2026 announcement, Roam says the Gen 3 battery delivers 80 km on a full charge, supports under-40-minute charging from 20% to 80%, uses IEC Type 6, and has IP67-rated water resistance and GPS tracking. Roam also announces a 100,000 km battery guarantee. These are company claims; check the written warranty or guarantee terms for what is covered, exclusions, duration and eligibility before relying on the distance figure or guarantee. What does “Africa’s own” mean for manufacturing?
Kenya News Agency reported that at the Gen 2 launch in June 2025, Roam said locally produced key parts had reached 36%. The reported parts included body panels, wire harnesses, connectors, the battery compartment, mechanical auxiliaries and storage unit. - Price and configuration: Get a current written quote that identifies the generation, battery count, included charger and applicable taxes.
- Route range: Ask whether one or two batteries are included and assess the route against the advertised per-battery maximum, allowing for terrain, load and riding style.
