Rivian reported $874 million in revenue for the third quarter of 2024, down 34.6% from a year earlier. The company attributed production constraints to a shortage of a component within its Enduro motor, used in the R1T and R1S. The supplier was not named, and later sources reviewed do not establish when that particular shortage ended. Rivian’s Q2 2026 results show a different, more recent picture: revenue rose year over year.
How much did Rivian’s revenue fall in Q3 2024?
Rivian’s Q3 2024 revenue was $874 million, 34.6% below the $1.33 billion it reported in Q3 2023. TechCrunch’s November 7, 2024 report also said the figure was more than 12% below analysts’ estimates. The year-over-year comparison measures the reported revenue change; the estimate comparison measures performance against analysts’ expectations.
The report linked the decline to lower production and deliveries amid a component shortage affecting the Enduro motor. That motor is used in Rivian’s R1T pickup and R1S SUV. The figures and explanation describe the third quarter of 2024, not Rivian’s current revenue trend.
What was the Enduro motor supplier problem?
Rivian said an acute supply issue involving a component within the Enduro motor limited production. The November 2024 report did not identify the supplier or component maker. CEO RJ Scaringe described the issue at the time as a short-term challenge and said it was a high priority for the company; that was his view then, not confirmation of the shortage’s eventual resolution.

“This has been a tough quarter for us because of some of those supply chain or supply ramp challenges, and one of those suppliers in particular has limited our production quite substantially,” Scaringe told TechCrunch in November 2024.
Neither the later company results cited here nor Rivian’s Q2 2026 SEC filing establish when that specific Enduro constraint ended. The filing discusses supplier disruption and tariff-related risks generally, but does not identify the supplier behind the 2024 issue.

How did production compare with deliveries?
Rivian produced 13,157 vehicles and delivered 10,018 in Q3 2024, according to TechCrunch. Production exceeded deliveries by 3,139 vehicles. The gap means the report’s account includes more than the immediate production constraint; it does not, by itself, establish a demand problem.
The prior month, Rivian had lowered its 2024 production guidance to 47,000–49,000 vehicles, citing the acute component supply issue. That guidance was a forecast for the full year, distinct from the actual Q3 production and delivery totals.

What do Rivian’s later results show?
Rivian’s July 30, 2026 Q2 release reported $1.658 billion in revenue, up 27% from Q2 2025, and $179 million in gross profit. The company’s revised 2026 guidance called for 65,000–70,000 vehicle deliveries. These later figures show that the Q3 2024 revenue decline should not be described as continuing through the latest reporting period cited here.
Rivian’s Q2 2026 earnings presentation reported 12,194 deliveries and $108 million in regulatory-credit revenue. It also reported approximately $100 million in incremental cost of revenue from the R2 production ramp compared with more normalized production levels. Those are separate later-period factors; the cited materials do not connect them to the 2024 Enduro motor shortage.
