Rivian’s $1,400 Travel Kitchen is a portable, folding induction-cooking setup—not the gear-tunnel slide-out kitchen the company showed in 2019. Rivian launched the newer design on August 15, 2024, five years after that prototype reveal. It folds into a carrying case for transport and is intended to be set up on a flat surface near the vehicle.
What happened to Rivian’s original camp kitchen?
Rivian demonstrated a camp kitchen prototype at Overland Expo West in 2019. That design was built around the R1T’s gear tunnel and used a special shuttle system to slide into position. The Travel Kitchen launched in 2024 is a different, smaller concept: a folding, portable unit that can be carried from the frunk or gear tunnel to the tailgate, then used on a flat surface.
TechCrunch reported the prototype’s historical price as $5,000 for the kitchen plus $1,500 for its shuttle system. Those were reported figures for the earlier design, not current offers or a like-for-like price comparison with the Travel Kitchen. TechCrunch’s August 15, 2024 launch report covers both designs.
How much does the Travel Kitchen cost?
Rivian’s Gear Shop lists the Travel Kitchen at $1,400, and Rivian’s August 14, 2026 gear guide also lists it at that price. Check the current Gear Shop listing before ordering because price and availability can change. Rivian’s product page says the kitchen is unavailable for shipment to California and directs customers there to a Rivian space; confirm the current restriction and purchase options with Rivian.

What comes with it, and how does it work?
The Travel Kitchen centers on a two-burner induction cooktop. Rivian’s current listing describes nine adjustable heat levels and output up to 1,500W; TechCrunch’s launch report specified that the burners share 1,500W. The product is designed to work with induction-compatible cookware, including cast iron and magnetic stainless steel.
- Power: At launch, Rivian said it could run from an R1 vehicle or a 120V source with 15A of current. The cooktop output is shared between the two burners.
- Prep area: The setup includes a food-safe cutting board made from recycled paper and wood pulp. Launch coverage also described a prep surface designed to stay level on a tailgate.
- Lighting: The launch description included dimmable lights on retractable poles.
- Transport and storage: The folding unit packs into a carrying case. Rivian’s August 2026 guide describes a storage drawer that folds into the case.
Rivian says the Travel Kitchen can be used on any flat surface with electricity. That makes it portable, but it is not the integrated gear-tunnel shuttle system from the 2019 prototype. Check the listing and your intended power source before use.

Does it fit the R1T gear tunnel?
The Travel Kitchen is meant to be carried in the vehicle and deployed elsewhere; launch coverage says it can move from the frunk or gear tunnel to the tailgate. That is different from the original prototype, which was designed to slide into the R1T gear tunnel using its dedicated shuttle. The available product descriptions do not establish that the Travel Kitchen mounts or operates inside the gear tunnel. Treat it as a portable kitchen and confirm dimensions and fit with Rivian if you plan to stow it in a particular vehicle.

TechCrunch reported that Rivian partnered with Snow Peak on some cookware and utensil add-ons. The report does not establish that Snow Peak products are included in the $1,400 Travel Kitchen, so check Rivian’s current listing for the contents of the package.
