Rivian’s current shop results include 2026 R1S Tri inventory, and NHTSA model-year records identify Tri-Motor AWD versions of both the R1S and R1T. That supports current availability of the powertrain, but not a guarantee that every build is in stock or shipping to every buyer.
When did Rivian’s Gen 2 Tri-Motor arrive?
Rivian announced the Gen 2 R1 Tri-Motor on November 21, 2024, and described it as available at launch. The announcement is historical; current inventory and delivery timing depend on the specific vehicle and location. Rivian’s live Shop & Configure results show 2026 R1S Tri inventory, while NHTSA model-year records list Tri-Motor AWD configurations for both the 2026 R1S and R1T.

Those records establish that the configuration exists for the 2026 model year, not that every version is continuously in stock or that a particular buyer can take delivery immediately. Check the current Rivian listing for the vehicle, price, and delivery estimate you want.
What does Tri-Motor mean?
Rivian’s layout uses two electric motors at the rear and one at the front. Tri-Motor is a distinct powertrain configuration, not simply a trim name for the later Quad-Motor setup. Rivian introduced the Gen 2 Quad-Motor in 2025; it uses four motors.

Rivian positioned Tri between Dual and Quad in power, performance, capability, and range when it launched. The company’s current 2026 R1S Tri listing specifies 850 horsepower for that configuration. That listing does not establish one horsepower figure for every Tri model year or build.
What range, price, and performance should buyers expect?
There is no single figure that applies to every R1 Tri. Battery, wheels and tires, drive modes, vehicle load, and weather can affect the result. Rivian explicitly cautions that its torque, horsepower, and acceleration timing estimates vary with those factors.

Rivian’s July 2025 announcement gives the Gen 2 Quad as context: 1,025 horsepower and 1,198 lb-ft. Those are Quad figures, not Tri-Motor specifications. Comparing the two by a single number can also obscure differences in battery, tires, and other selected equipment.

The R1T is Rivian’s pickup and the R1S is its SUV. Both appear in official model-year records with Tri-Motor AWD, but their body styles and individual configurations are different. Do not assume that an R1S range, price, delivery estimate, or shop listing applies to an R1T. Compare the exact vehicle in Rivian’s current inventory or configurator, including battery, wheels and tires, and estimated range.

Is Launch Mode for public roads?
No. Rivian says Launch Mode is designed for closed-circuit tracks in dry conditions and should not be used on public roadways. Follow the vehicle’s owner information and safety directions when using performance features.
