Rhino’s production-ready car, announced in May 2026, uses a naturally aspirated Ford Performance Coyote V8 producing approximately 480–600 horsepower and sends power through a seven-speed Porsche PDK dual-clutch transmission.
That change is more than a technical footnote. Rhino says roughly 80 percent of the components were replaced or redesigned between the prototype and the production-ready car. The result is a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive kit supercar built around an aluminium monocoque, pushrod suspension and modular subframes—rather than a conventional donor car wearing exotic bodywork.
What the current Rhino RR01 is
Rhino Automotive, based in Kaunas, Lithuania, describes the RR01 as a ground-up platform designed for track use while remaining road-legal in selected markets. Its structure is a welded AW6082-T6 aluminium monocoque with an integrated roll structure, modular front and rear assemblies, and double-wishbone suspension at both ends.

The main published technical figures for the current platform are:
| Specification | Published figure or description |
|---|---|
| Engine | Naturally aspirated Ford Coyote V8, 5.0 litres |
| Power | 480-plus horsepower on Rhino’s technical page; approximately 480–600 hp depending on configuration |
| Transmission | Seven-speed Porsche PDK dual-clutch transmission |
| Layout | Mid-engine, rear-wheel drive |
| Weight | Approximately 1,250 kg for the platform specification; Rhino has also quoted approximately 1,200 kg for a particular production-ready build |
| Weight distribution | Approximately 60:40 rear/front |
| Wheelbase | 2,540 mm |
| Suspension | Double wishbones with pushrod actuation and adjustable dampers |
| Brakes | AP Racing hardware; the standard kit lists four-piston brakes |
| Wheels and tyres | Forged wheels and a track-oriented tyre setup |
The two weight figures should not automatically be treated as a contradiction. The approximately 1,250-kg figure appears on Rhino’s general technical specification, while the approximately 1,200-kg figure was attached to a particular, fully equipped production-ready car. Final weight will depend on specification and equipment.
Why the V10 headline needs a qualification
The original RR01 concept and first drivable prototype were associated with a 5.2-liter Audi V10 producing about 440 hp. That is the source of the car’s V10 identity and the reason the engine remains central to its coverage.
However, the production direction is different. Rhino replaced the Audi V10 arrangement with a Ford Performance Coyote V8 and changed the gearbox from a sequential unit to a Porsche seven-speed PDK. According to Rhino, the revised drivetrain is intended to make the car more usable on the road without abandoning its track-focused character.
So, if you are looking at a current RR01 order, do not assume that the standard production car comes with a V10. The accurate description is: a home-assembled supercar whose prototype used an Audi V10, while the current production car is Ford V8-powered.
How much does the RR01 cost?
Rhino’s configurator, checked on August 12, 2026, separates the project into a rolling platform and a complete standard kit. Prices are displayed in euros. GBP and USD figures shown by the configurator are indicative, and VAT, shipping, finish, drivetrain choices and registration can change the final amount.
Rank #2
- V8 POWER: The model features a 400 cubic inch V8 engine, reflecting the muscle and power that defined the GTO's reputation.
- DETAILED SUSPENSION & EXHAUST: The kit incorporates separate rear suspension and exhaust detailing, adding to the realism of the model.
- BUCKET SEATS & CONSOLE: The model's interior features bucket seats and a floor shifter with a console, capturing the iconic look and feel of the GTO.
- OPTIONAL SUPERCHARGER: For those seeking more power, the kit offers an optional supercharger, allowing you to customize your model.
- CLEAR & COMPREHENSIVE INSTRUCTIONS: The included instructions are clear and user-friendly, making the kit accessible to modelers of different skill levels, from beginners to experienced hobbyists.
Rolling platform: €38,450 excluding VAT
The rolling platform is the substantial chassis and body package, but it is not a running car. Rhino lists the following as included:
- Welded aluminium chassis and core platform
- Bodywork and aerodynamic package
- Windscreen and polycarbonate windows
- Pushrod suspension architecture
- Electro-hydraulic power steering
The rolling platform excludes the engine and drivetrain, brakes, pedals, lights, dampers, fuel system and electronics. Buyers choosing this route will need to budget for those systems, along with assembly, paint or other finish work, shipping, taxes and registration.
Recommended Free Tools
Complete standard kit: €99,985
The standard kit is described as a complete running car once assembled. Its listed contents include the rolling-platform specification plus:
- Ford Coyote 5.0-liter V8
- Seven-speed dual-clutch transmission
- Intrax 1K2 dampers
- Electronics and road lighting
- Fuel system and cooling system
- Four-piston brakes and pedal box
- Heating, ventilation and air conditioning
- Cockpit interior
- Standard wheels and tyres
The configurator requires a €3,000 reservation deposit credited toward the final build price. Displayed build windows extend into 2027, but queue positions, production timing and pricing can change. The quoted kit price should therefore be treated as a starting point, not an out-the-door cost.
Can you really build one at home?
Yes, with an important qualification: Rhino presents the RR01 as owner-assemblable, not beginner-proof. Its FAQ says a professional mechanic is not required if the builder can maintain their own car. The company’s engineering information estimates approximately 300 hours of hands-on assembly for a complete kit and says a well-equipped home workshop with standard tools is sufficient. Rhino also says proprietary jigs are not required.
The build documentation is described as step-by-step and includes torque values and tightening sequences. Rhino says the machined parts are intended to fit without forcing, hammering or improvisation, and that engineering support and a builder community are available.

- These highly detailed kits come with everything you need to build them including the screwdriver.
- Opening parts, Rolling Wheels
- Easy assembly, Pre-painted metal body
- When finished the vehicles are fully functional
- Rolling die-cast replica
In practical terms, a suitable builder should be comfortable with far more than changing engine oil. The project involves:
- Chassis and suspension assembly
- Powertrain installation and alignment
- Brake and pedal-system work
- Fuel, cooling and HVAC installation
- Electrical wiring and lighting
- Fluid filling, bleeding and leak checks
- Suspension setup and fastener verification
- Pre-registration inspection and road testing
A safe workspace also matters. A level floor, reliable lifting and support equipment, adequate lighting, secure storage and a plan for handling fluids are sensible requirements for a project of this size. These are practical workshop considerations rather than a published mandatory Rhino tool list.
Because the manuals supply tightening sequences and torque values, a calibrated automotive torque wrench is directly relevant to the build. It should supplement the RR01 instructions—not replace them—and the tool’s range must suit the fastener being tightened. Builders should follow Rhino’s specified torque values and any required tightening sequence rather than applying a generic setting.
What the production-ready car adds
Rhino’s May 2026 production announcement described a revised production-ready car rather than simply the early prototype with a new engine. Reported updates include a revised interior, custom-forged wheels, suede trim, Apple CarPlay, a rear-view camera, powered mirrors and a Formula 1-inspired steering wheel.
Those additions help explain the move to the Coyote V8 and PDK. The RR01 remains an extreme, low-volume performance project, but the current configuration is intended to be more manageable in normal road use than the prototype’s V10 and sequential-gearbox combination.
Is the Rhino RR01 road legal?
Rhino says the RR01 is road-legal in selected markets, including the United States and United Kingdom. The company also says each car has a VIN plate and comes with a manufacturer’s statement of origin. Rhino has reported shipping an assembled RR01 from Kaunas to a customer in Pennsylvania.

That demonstrates that U.S. delivery and documentation are part of Rhino’s operating plan. It does not guarantee registration in every U.S. state. Kit-car and assembled-vehicle rules vary by jurisdiction and can involve:
- Title and registration procedures
- State-specific inspection requirements
- Emissions rules and model-year treatment
- Lighting, mirrors, glazing and safety-equipment requirements
- VIN or assigned-vehicle-identification procedures
- Insurance for an individually built or specialty vehicle
Before paying a deposit, a U.S. buyer should contact the relevant state motor-vehicle authority and confirm how a completed RR01 would be titled, inspected and registered. Buyers elsewhere should perform the equivalent check with their national or regional authority. Registration, taxes, shipping and insurance should be treated as separate parts of the budget.

Specialist kit-car insurance and assembled-vehicle registration services may also be useful categories to investigate, although the correct provider and legal process depend on the buyer’s jurisdiction.
How credible is the production claim?
Rhino announced the production-ready RR01 at the Red Bull Showrun in Klaipėda on May 11, 2026, and said first customer deliveries were expected by the end of 2026. In a separate company update, it reported that an RR01 had been crated and shipped from Kaunas to Pennsylvania.
These are meaningful signals that the company has moved beyond an early concept and is organizing customer deliveries. They remain company-reported claims, however, rather than independently audited production-volume figures or an independent reliability test. The available information does not establish how many cars have been completed, how long-term durability will compare with established supercar manufacturers, or whether every customer build will match the demonstrated specification.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should a prospective builder verify?
- Confirm the drivetrain. Ask whether your intended build is the current Coyote V8/PDK configuration or a separately specified alternative. Do not assume the prototype’s Audi V10 arrangement is available.
- Choose the correct package. A €38,450 rolling platform is not equivalent to the €99,985 complete standard kit. List every excluded system before comparing prices.
- Request a build-specific quotation. Confirm VAT, shipping, paint or finish, options, final drivetrain specification and payment milestones.
- Plan the workshop. Make sure the floor, lifting equipment, tools, electrical supply and storage are suitable before delivery.
- Read the registration rules first. VIN and manufacturer documentation help, but they do not override state or national requirements.
- Budget beyond the kit. Include taxes, transport, fluids, consumables, alignment, inspection, registration, insurance and any professional assistance.
- Allow time for checking. Rhino’s approximately 300-hour estimate is hands-on assembly time, not necessarily the complete calendar time from delivery to a registered, sorted road car.
Workshop preparation: what is reasonable to expect
Rhino says standard workshop tooling is sufficient, but “standard tooling” does not mean a basic household toolbox. A builder will likely need appropriate sockets and hand tools, measuring and electrical equipment, fluid-service equipment, safe lifting and support equipment, and a calibrated torque wrench. The exact requirements should come from Rhino’s build documentation for the selected configuration.

An automotive mechanic tool set can make the general workshop side of the project more manageable, but no generic kit should be assumed to contain every tool required for an RR01. The sensible approach is to obtain Rhino’s current instructions first, inventory what you already own, and then buy or borrow only the missing equipment.
The bottom line on the RR01
The Rhino Racing RR01 is not merely a body conversion. Its aluminium monocoque, modular structures, pushrod suspension, mid-engine layout and track-focused hardware make it a genuine purpose-engineered kit supercar. Rhino also provides a credible basis for the “build at home” claim: approximately 300 hours, standard workshop tooling, detailed torque documentation and engineering support.
But the headline needs updating. The V10 belongs to the early Audi-powered prototype. The current production-ready RR01 is a Ford Coyote V8-powered car with a Porsche seven-speed PDK, and its €99,985 complete-kit price is only one part of the final ownership cost. For an experienced enthusiast with a serious workshop and a clear registration plan, it is an unusually direct route to a bespoke supercar. For a novice expecting a simple weekend assembly or guaranteed nationwide road legality, it is a much riskier proposition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the current Rhino Racing RR01 powered by a V10?
No. The original drivable Rhino RR01 prototype used a 5.2-liter Audi V10 with approximately 440 horsepower. The current production-ready configuration uses a naturally aspirated Ford Coyote V8 producing approximately 480–600 horsepower, paired with a seven-speed Porsche PDK.
How much does a Rhino RR01 kit cost?
Rhino’s configurator lists a rolling platform at €38,450 excluding VAT and a complete standard kit at €99,985. These are displayed in euros and do not necessarily represent the final out-the-door cost after VAT, shipping, finish, options and registration.
Can a beginner build the RR01 at home?
Rhino estimates approximately 300 hours of hands-on assembly for a complete kit and says a well-equipped home workshop with standard tools is sufficient. That does not make it a beginner project; mechanical, electrical, fluid-system and safety skills are still required.
Is the Rhino RR01 street legal in the United States?
Rhino says the RR01 is road-legal in selected markets, including the United States and United Kingdom. U.S. registration is not guaranteed nationwide because title, inspection, emissions, equipment and insurance rules vary by state.
What is included in the RR01 rolling platform?
The rolling platform excludes the engine and drivetrain, brakes, pedals, lights, dampers, fuel system and electronics. The complete standard kit includes those systems along with the Coyote V8, PDK, cooling, HVAC, interior, brakes and standard wheels and tyres.
