A Mazda CX-20 crossover has not been confirmed. Mazda’s name appears in a Philippine trademark gazette for “MAZDA CX-20,” but that filing does not establish a production vehicle or a plan to replace the Mazda2 or CX-3. Earlier reports linked the name to a possible CX-3 successor; later reporting says the next CX-3 is expected in 2027 and to keep its existing name.
What is confirmed about the Mazda CX-20?
The strongest official evidence is a trademark entry, not a vehicle announcement. A Philippine Intellectual Property Center gazette published on 16 September 2022 lists “MAZDA CX-20,” names Mazda Motor Corporation as the holder and places the mark in Class 12, covering automobiles and vehicle components. A trademark can protect a name for potential use; by itself, it does not show that a car has been approved, developed, or scheduled for sale. No direct Mazda statement confirming a CX-20 production program was identified in the sources reviewed.

Why was CX-20 linked to the Mazda2 and CX-3?
In January 2026, Autocosmos México reported that production of the CX-3 might end in March 2026 and Mazda2 production might end in June 2026. Its account attributed those projected dates to Japanese outlet Creative Trend, which reportedly relied on documents sent to dealers. Autocosmos presented the end dates conditionally, and the reporting concerned Japan; it does not establish a matching global discontinuation date or availability in every market. That phase-out story helped fuel speculation that a CX-20 might take the CX-3’s place. But the connection was not confirmed: U-CAR said Mazda had not announced a CX-3 successor or whether a follow-on model would be produced, and described CX-20 as a possible inferred name. Read U-CAR’s coverage.
What does the later report say about the next CX-3?
ANTARA reported on 11 August 2026 that the next CX-3 was expected to begin production in 2027 and retain the CX-3 badge, rather than become a CX-20. ANTARA attributed the information to Carscoops’ reading of a Mazda financial report. Because the underlying financial report was not independently reviewed here, this is secondary reporting—not a direct Mazda announcement. Read ANTARA’s report.

This later account complicates the earlier replacement theory: it points to a next-generation CX-3 under its established name, while leaving the CX-20 trademark’s eventual use unknown. Neither report establishes final production timing, plant, specifications, price, or market availability through a direct Mazda confirmation.

No confirmed link has been established. Chasing Cars reported that Mazda showed the Vision-X Compact concept at the 2025 Tokyo Mobility Show and discussed it as a possible design direction for future Mazda2 or CX-3 successors. Chasing Cars gave the concept’s dimensions as 3,825 mm long, 1,795 mm wide and 1,570 mm high, with a 2,515 mm wheelbase. Those are reported concept dimensions—not specifications for a CX-20 or a production Mazda2. A concept can indicate design thinking, but it does not prove a particular model name, powertrain, platform, or launch plan.

Until Mazda confirms a model and market plan, shoppers should rely on local dealer information for the models actually offered in their region rather than treating a CX-20 launch or either model’s global end date as settled.
