Renault’s E-Space Concept is a design tribute to the Espace people-carrier, whose first generation launched in 1984. A report published by Auto Express on 6 October 2026 describes a one-box silhouette and several distinctive exterior details, but the concept’s cabin, powertrain, range and production prospects were not confirmed. Renault scheduled a fuller reveal for 12 October 2026.
What is the Renault E-Space Concept?
E-Space Concept is Renault’s contemporary reinterpretation of the Espace, the family-car nameplate associated with the one-box people-carrier. Renault describes the concept as part of its “futuREady” strategy, saying it is intended to put user needs and the in-car experience at the heart of the design process. The statement is attributed to Renault, not to a named spokesperson. Auto Express’s 6 October 2026 report quotes Renault’s description.
The concept is not yet a confirmed production model. As of 7 October 2026, Renault had scheduled the full details for 12 October, so the information available before that reveal is a mixture of reported exterior observations and unresolved speculation.
What does the concept look like?
Auto Express describes a monovolume, or one-box, profile: a continuous people-carrier shape that visually prioritizes cabin space over a separate bonnet-and-cabin layout. Its report gives an approximate length of 4.7 metres, but this is not a complete official specification sheet.

How many seats does it have, and what is inside?
The cabin was not visible in the report. Auto Express says the concept appears to have six seats and a steering yoke, but neither should be treated as a confirmed interior specification. Renault had not yet provided a verified cabin layout in the information available before the scheduled reveal.

Is the Renault E-Space electric, and what is its range?
No final powertrain or range figure was established for the concept as of 7 October 2026. The Auto Express report discusses possible future-platform and drivetrain directions, including an electric-first or range-extender approach, but presents these as speculation rather than confirmed E-Space specifications. Its mention of a possible 500-mile range and rear-wheel drive is likewise not a Renault promise or verified technical data.
Will the E-Space go into production?
Production intent was not confirmed in the available information. A concept can preview design thinking without being a commitment to build a retail model; Renault’s scheduled reveal may clarify its status, but the pre-reveal report does not settle whether an E-Space production vehicle will follow.

Why does the Espace name matter?
From Matra project to Renault people-carrier
The Espace’s origins predate its 1984 launch. Renault Classic’s historical brochure recounts a series of projects and a December 1982 meeting where Matra Automobiles chief Philippe Guédon presented the Matra P23 project to Renault executives. In the brochure, then-Renault CEO Bernard Hanon described the car as “the natural result when you go beyond all vehicular vanity.” Renault Classic’s historical brochure also quotes Peugeot CEO Jean Boillot, who said the body style represented a turning point “as important as Diesel was in terms of mechanics.” These are historical quotations attributed to the executives by the brochure.
A substantial French-market first generation
The Musée de l’automobile Henri Malartre records that the first-generation Espace was produced and sold in France beginning in 1984, with more than 190,000 units sold there from 1984 to 1991. The museum’s publication year is not stated, and the figure is the museum’s account rather than a Renault sales figure. Musée de l’automobile Henri Malartre’s Espace history gives the record.

Renault’s 2024 announcement for the Symbioz also places the original Espace in the company’s family-car lineage, describing it as bringing one-box design and a modular layout to that range. Renault Media’s Symbioz announcement provides that retrospective context.
