Renault 5 Turbo 3E: A Mini-Supercar in Renault 5 Clothing

Renault’s Renault 5-inspired Turbo 3E is a two-seat electric sports car, not a family hatchback. Here are its published performance, range, charging and availability figures.

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E pairs a familiar Renault 5-inspired shape with the proportions and claimed performance of a specialist sports car: it is about 4.08 metres long, more than two metres wide, seats two and sends power to the rear wheels. Renault calls it an electric “mini-supercar”; that is marketing language, not a formal vehicle class. It is not a practical family hatchback.

What is the Renault 5 Turbo 3E?

Revealed by Renault on 17 March 2025, the Turbo 3E is an electric sports car inspired by the 1980s Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2. Alpine had an engineering role in developing its dedicated platform. The result is not simply a high-performance version of the regular Renault 5 E-Tech: Renault describes a carbon-composite superstructure, an underfloor battery and two motors integrated into the rear wheels. Renault’s launch announcement also points to drift assistance and a vertical, rally-style handbrake as part of the car’s driving brief.

The design reprises the older Turbos’ broad stance, flared bodywork, spoilers and distinctive lighting cues. Some details, including the mirrors and rear lights, recall the contemporary Renault 5. The hatchback resemblance is therefore about its compact, Renault 5-derived silhouette—not everyday hatchback practicality.

Why does it look like a hatchback but measure like a sports car?

Its short length makes the contrast striking, but its width is the more revealing number. Renault’s preliminary October 2025 technical sheet gives a length of 4,080 mm, a height of 1,380 mm and a wheelbase of 2,570 mm. It lists overall width as 2,040 mm and rear fender-to-fender width as 2,030 mm; Renault’s launch description rounds the width to 2.03 m. The difference reflects the measurement used, so “about 2.03–2.04 m wide” is the clearest description.

That footprint surrounds a two-door, two-seat cabin. Renault says the battery sits under the floor, lowering the centre of gravity, while the separate rear motors allow independent torque control. The wide body and compact length serve a performance-focused layout, not extra passenger space. Renault’s preliminary technical sheet includes further chassis and equipment details; specifications may vary by market or change before production.

How fast is the Renault 5 Turbo 3E?

Renault’s later published figure is 410 kW, or 555 hp, with 4,800 Nm of torque. The October 2025 preliminary technical sheet gives a 0–100 km/h time of under 3.5 seconds, less than nine seconds to 200 km/h and a 270 km/h top speed. Renault UK lists a track top speed of 167 mph. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.

The power figure evolved: Renault’s March 2025 reveal referred to 540 hp, while its later technical sheet and July 2026 update state 555 hp. The later figure is the relevant one for the current specification, but final production details can still vary.

Rear-wheel drive, in-wheel motors and three levels of drift assistance point to a car intended for track and drift enthusiasts as well as road use. Renault also lists four driving modes, four levels of regenerative braking, 380 mm front and 450 mm rear discs, and six-piston front calipers. Those are preliminary manufacturer details, not evidence of how the production car performs in independent testing.

What are its range and charging claims?

Renault describes a 70 kWh battery; its October 2025 technical sheet specifies 70.3 kWh net and a WLTP range above 400 km (about 248 miles). Renault’s July 2026 Goodwood release repeats the range claim but says it is pending homologation. The figure is therefore provisional, and the available manufacturer material does not establish final homologated range or real-world driving range.

Charging figures differ across Renault materials, so the source and date matter:

How much does the Renault 5 Turbo 3E cost, and when is it due?

Renault announced a provisional introductory price of €155,000 including VAT in April 2025 for the first 500 priority reservation signatories in its network. That figure excluded options, accessories and personalisation, and Renault said it could change when sales opened. It is a dated, market-specific announcement—not a confirmed current price for every country. Buyers should check local Renault pricing and order terms.

Renault announced a numbered production run of 1,980 cars, referencing the year the original Turbo launched. Its July 2026 update said orders remained open and deliveries were scheduled from 2027. That is a delivery schedule, not confirmation that customer deliveries have begun. Local availability, final pricing and production specifications may differ.

Is it a hatchback or a supercar?

In shape, it draws on a compact Renault 5. In purpose and layout, the Turbo 3E is a two-seat, rear-wheel-drive electric sports car. “Mini-supercar” is Renault’s description of the category it wants the car to represent; it is not an independently certified classification. The useful distinction is simpler: the Turbo 3E borrows the Renault 5’s visual identity, but its extreme width, two-seat cabin and performance-focused hardware make it a specialist enthusiast car rather than a family hatchback.
