What “back in the US” means
The reported event was the AC GT Roadster’s US debut at ModaMiami in March 2025. Drive With Dave reported that AC Cars planned client appointments for viewing and test drives in the United States. The report does not confirm whether those appointments led to ongoing retail availability or a broader dealer network. So the headline is best understood as a US debut and customer-access story—not proof that buyers can now order the car anywhere in the country.
Is the AC GT Roadster the same as a Shelby Cobra?
No. AC Cars and Shelby American have connected but distinct Cobra histories, and their current cars are separate offerings. The modern AC GT Roadster is AC Cars’ contemporary roadster revisiting the original Cobra’s spirit. Shelby American, meanwhile, lists its own continuation Cobra models, including 427 S/C and 289 variants. Shelby American’s 427 Cobra (CSX6000) page describes its 427 S/C continuation model, while its 2026 Shelby GT350/TA page identifies Shelby’s continuation Cobra lines.

The distinction matters because the AC GT Roadster’s US debut was an AC Cars event. It should not be confused with Shelby American’s separate continuation-car program.
How the modern roadster relates to the original Cobra
The original Cobra formula is commonly associated with a British sports-car body and chassis paired with an American Ford V8. In a July 13, 2026 road test, evo described that combination and distinguished AC-built 289 Sports MkIII models from Shelby-built US Cobras.

That history provides context for AC Cars’ modern roadster, but the available reporting does not establish that the AC GT Roadster matches a 1960s Cobra’s specifications, components, or driving character. It is more accurate to describe it as a contemporary car revisiting the original’s spirit than as an equivalent reproduction.
What Shelby’s continuation Cobra listing tells buyers
Shelby American says production of its 427 S/C Cobra resumed in 1997. Its CSX6000 listing offers aluminum or fiberglass body options and says the listed car does not include an engine or transmission. That is a significant buying distinction: the product page describes a continuation car with configuration and completion considerations, not a complete, ready-to-drive car with a specified powertrain included.
