There is no reliable national list of ten luxury SUVs that are all both exceptionally dependable and “crazy cheap.” A more useful way to shop is to set a price ceiling, then compare specific model years and individual vehicles. iSeeCars’ 2026 used-luxury-midsize-SUV rankings identify four candidates at different price thresholds; Consumer Reports’ 2025 guide adds year-specific Acura, BMW and Lexus choices. Those thresholds are ranking categories, not guaranteed asking prices or assurances about a car’s condition.
Start with a budget band—not a promise of a bargain
“Cheap” depends on your budget, location and the vehicle’s age, mileage, history and condition. Treat the prices below as the ceilings used to organize iSeeCars’ 2026 ranking, not as quotes for what a particular SUV should cost. Check current local listings and compare vehicles with similar years, mileage and equipment.
Reliability scores are also not interchangeable. Publishers use different data and methods, and a model-level score cannot tell you whether a used example was neglected, damaged or properly maintained.
Four luxury midsize SUVs in iSeeCars’ 2026 budget rankings
| Candidate | Ranking budget band | Displayed score | What the evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2018 Infiniti QX60 | Under $15,000 and under $20,000 | Not stated in the cited evidence | Listed as iSeeCars’ most reliable choice in both bands; the ranking does not establish the price or condition of a specific vehicle. |
| 2020 Acura MDX | Under $30,000 | 7.7/10 | Included in iSeeCars’ under-$30,000 ranking. The score is iSeeCars’ measure, not a prediction about an individual MDX. |
| 2020 Lexus RX 350 | Under $35,000 | 8.0/10 | Included in iSeeCars’ under-$35,000 ranking. The score is iSeeCars’ measure, not a prediction about an individual RX 350. |
| 2020 Lexus GX 460 | Under $40,000 | 8.2/10 | Included in iSeeCars’ under-$40,000 ranking. The score is iSeeCars’ measure, not a prediction about an individual GX 460. |
These are four ranked model-year candidates, not proof that every one is inexpensive in every market. Compare each against actual listings and its service and title history. See iSeeCars’ 2026 most reliable used luxury midsize SUV rankings for the ranking context.

Six more year-specific candidates from Consumer Reports
Consumer Reports’ 2025 Buying Guide identifies reliable used SUV choices by model year; it does not endorse every year or trim of each nameplate. The guide includes these additional candidates:
- Acura RDX: listed model years include 2016, 2020 and 2021–2023.
- Lexus NX: included among the guide’s reliable used SUV choices; consult the guide’s year-specific entries rather than assuming all years qualify.
- BMW X3: listed model years include 2016, 2018 and 2021–2022.
- Lexus RX: included among the guide’s reliable used SUV choices; verify the applicable model year in the guide.
- Lexus GX: included among the guide’s reliable used SUV choices; verify the applicable model year in the guide.
That makes ten candidate model-year/nameplate entries across the iSeeCars and Consumer Reports evidence—not ten vehicles proven to be both cheap and reliable in every circumstance. The Consumer Reports guide includes a 2014–2023 reliability chart and price bands. Use its entry for the precise year you are considering: a selection for one year should not be generalized to the entire generation or to a different trim. Consumer Reports Buying Guide 2025.
Reliability ratings need context
J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study measured problems after three years of ownership. Lexus ranked highest overall among brands at 140 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), against an industry average of 202 PP100. This is a brand-level measure of newer vehicles, not evidence that any particular older used Lexus is trouble-free. It also uses a different measure from iSeeCars’ model scores, so the numbers should not be compared directly. J.D. Power’s 2025 study announcement.

If your budget is below $15,000, consider whether a premium badge is worth the likely ownership trade-offs. Edmunds’ under-$15,000 used-car recommendations, carried by AP in 2024, name the 2014–2019 Toyota Highlander as the midsize SUV pick. It is not a luxury SUV, but it offers a useful value benchmark: compare its equipment and condition with an older premium-badged vehicle before committing to one. Edmunds highlights improvements in the Highlander for 2017–2019, including more power and fuel efficiency and added driver-assistance features. The source does not provide comparable maintenance-cost or fuel-economy figures across the luxury candidates. Edmunds’ under-$15,000 used-vehicle recommendations and shopping advice.

How to choose among the candidates
- Set your real ceiling. Include the money you can devote to inspection, immediate maintenance and repairs—not only the purchase price. The cited ranking bands do not account for those costs.
- Compare like with like. Narrow your search to the exact model year and trim, then compare asking price, mileage, service records, title and accident history, and overall condition. Geography and the individual vehicle can substantially change value.
- Check the vehicle’s history and recalls. Obtain a vehicle-history report, review available maintenance records, and check for open recalls using the vehicle identification number (VIN).
- Arrange an independent pre-purchase inspection. Ask a qualified mechanic to assess the specific vehicle before you buy. A consumer OBD-II code reader can be a preliminary check, but it cannot replace an inspection or guarantee mechanical soundness.
- Decide whether the premium is worthwhile. Compare the used luxury SUV’s equipment and condition with a mainstream alternative such as the Highlander. The available sources do not establish comparable fuel use or maintenance costs for all ten candidates, so do not infer those expenses from reliability rankings alone.
