There isn’t enough comparable evidence to rank ten entry-level SUVs reliably. The current sources instead point to three promising models—the Subaru Crosstrek, Honda HR-V and Toyota Corolla Cross—using different measures that should not be combined into a single score. The Nissan Kicks also places well in one 2025 ranking, but that result does not establish long-term reliability for its redesigned generation.
Why a defensible top-ten ranking isn’t available
Reliability claims need to identify the model year and, where relevant, the powertrain. A result for one year or generation does not automatically apply to every vehicle sold under the same nameplate.
The available sources also measure different things. Consumer Reports describes its reliability ratings as based on “objective data collected from consumers.” J.D. Power says its rankings are powered by VIN-verified vehicle owners. iSeeCars’ analysis, meanwhile, considers the likelihood that a vehicle reaches a high-mileage threshold. These results offer useful signals, but they are not scores from a shared test.
That distinction matters: the evidence supports a short list of candidates, not ten vehicles ranked against one another on a common reliability scale. The order below groups models by the kind of evidence available; it is not a claim that one source has proved a model more dependable than another.

Entry-level SUVs with favorable reliability signals

Other recommended SUVs are not reliability-ranked here
A 2025 Consumer Reports SUV ratings PDF lists the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos and Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid as recommended. That “recommended” designation is a composite overall score, not a pure reliability ranking. It is not enough to place the CX-30, Kona, Seltos or Corolla Cross Hybrid at a particular position on a reliability list.
Consumer Reports’ 2026 coverage of its new-car reliability survey is also relevant context, but the model-specific findings available here do not establish a comparable top ten for these entry-level SUVs. A recommendation or a broad survey result should not be presented as a head-to-head dependability score.

What the broader dependability data can—and can’t—tell you
J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study concerns problems reported after three years of ownership. Its March 28, 2025 release said problems reached their highest level since 2009. It also reported 8.4 problems per 100 vehicles for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity in 2025, compared with 6.3 in 2024. Those are industry-wide findings, not model-level comparisons among the SUVs above.
Connectivity is one example of why the word “reliable” needs context: a survey can count reported problems, while a high-mileage analysis looks at a different ownership outcome. Neither measure alone tells you whether a particular used vehicle has been maintained well or whether its exact powertrain suits your needs.

How to use these findings when shopping
- Choose the exact model year and powertrain first. Check whether the evidence refers to that year and generation, and distinguish gas from hybrid versions where applicable. Do not assume a result transfers across a redesign.
- Read the source’s measure, not just its rank. An owner ranking, a consumer survey and a high-mileage likelihood analysis are different forms of evidence. A higher position in one cannot be read as a win in another.
- Check the specific vehicle’s history and condition. For a used SUV, the nameplate’s survey reputation cannot substitute for maintenance records and an inspection of that vehicle.
- Compare ownership fit alongside reliability. Price, warranty, fuel economy, safety, space, drivetrain and local service needs can change which SUV is right for you. The sources cited here do not provide comparable evaluations of those factors across the candidates.
