The Reiter ORCA is a Mercedes Sprinter-based transporter with a carbon rear structure that Reiter markets for both cargo work and camper conversions. It could be a compelling lightweight camper base, but the key figures—payload, price and weight reserve—are manufacturer claims, not verified specifications for a finished motorhome. Before committing, get a build-specific weight and quote.
What is the Reiter ORCA?
Reiter Engineering describes the ORCA as a lightweight transporter built around a Mercedes Sprinter drive head and a carbon rear structure. Its official product material also describes an electric loading ramp. The vehicle is positioned for commercial transport as well as conversion into a camper or motorhome.
That makes the ORCA different from simply buying a standard Sprinter and fitting a conversion: the rear body and loading arrangement are part of Reiter’s design. The available material, however, does not establish the specifications or weight of a particular customer vehicle. Reiter’s ORCA product page presents its product claims; its industries page also includes travel and camping applications.
What engine and transmission options does Reiter list?
Reiter’s FAQ describes two planned drive-head variants. It does not give a model year or establish that either is currently available to order.
#1 Best Overall
- Custom Fit: Designed for 2007–current Mercedes-Benz Sprinter high roof vans, this cab curtain creates a clean separation between the cab and living space with a precise, factory-style fit. Requires a curtain rod for installation (rod not included); compatible with VANNCAMP headliner shelf and shelf cover for a clean, integrated look
- Thermal Control: Multi-layer construction with reflective aluminum film and XPE core helps block heat in summer and retain warmth in winter. Cool down the cab faster with AC, or heat a smaller space instead of the entire van for improved comfort in any season
- Full Privacy: Blocks outside visibility to create a secure, private space inside your van. Blackout design helps reduce light leaks, making it ideal for sleeping, changing, or stealth camping
- Magnetic Closure: Strong center magnets create a secure seal for quick access and daily use. Keeps the curtain firmly closed while driving or parked without complicated adjustments
- Easy Install: No tools required. Installs in minutes and folds compactly when not in use. Removable lower panels (Velcro) allow space for under-seat heaters or full blackout, while side straps keep the curtain neatly secured when rolled up
| Planned variant listed by Reiter | Stated output | Transmission |

| OM 654 | 110 kW / 150 hp | Six-speed manual |
| OM 654 DE 20 LA | 125 kW / 170 hp | 9G-Tronic automatic |
These figures are the specifications in Reiter’s ORCA FAQ. They do not establish fuel economy, acceleration, driving range or current order availability. Confirm the engine, gearbox and emissions or registration details on the actual quotation and vehicle specification.
How much payload and cargo space does it claim?
Reiter’s current official pages give slightly different maximum cargo-volume figures. The product page states up to 1,600 kg payload and up to 25 m³ cargo volume; its news page states 1.6 tonnes and up to 24.7 m³ load volume. Both were checked on October 8, 2026; neither page states a publication date, and the retrieved material does not explain the volume difference.

| Figure | Reiter page and qualification |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,600 kg payload | Official product page; manufacturer-stated maximum. |
| Up to 25 m³ cargo volume | Official product page; manufacturer-stated maximum. |
| Up to 24.7 m³ load volume | Official news page; manufacturer-stated maximum. |
These are transporter claims, not the usable payload or storage volume of a completed camper. The ORCA camping page says the vehicle can provide an approximately 1,600 kg weight reserve and an interior height of up to 2.3 m, but does not explain the precise configuration or measurement basis for either figure. Do not treat the stated reserve as payload remaining after a conversion unless Reiter provides a weight calculation for that specific build.
Ask for the vehicle’s actual weight in its delivered configuration and the maximum permissible gross weight, then have the converter itemize the weight of its installed furniture, appliances, water, batteries and other equipment. The number that matters for loading and travel is the remaining payload of the finished, registered vehicle—not the transporter’s advertised maximum.

Can the ORCA be converted into a camper?
Yes, that is one of Reiter’s stated intended uses. The company says the ORCA is suitable as a motorhome base below 3.5 tonnes and promotes its construction as a way to retain payload after conversion. Those are manufacturer positioning claims; the retrieved official material does not provide a verified completed camper’s kerb weight or remaining payload.
The claimed interior height of up to 2.3 m may be relevant to layout planning, but the exact measurement basis is not stated. Ask the converter to confirm usable standing height in the proposed finished interior, including floor and ceiling finishes. Also compare actual finished-vehicle weight, remaining payload, layout, installed water and battery capacity, and conversion price across any builds you are considering; published ORCA material does not establish comparable completed-build figures.

Reiter’s ORCA camping page explains the company’s camper positioning. It does not identify an authorized converter in the material available here, so confirm directly who will perform the conversion and how responsibility for vehicle approval and registration is handled.

Reiter’s FAQ gives a planned retail starting price of €125,000 net for a basic model, depending on the front configuration. The page does not state a publication date. This is not a confirmed current quote, an all-in consumer price or the price of a camper conversion. Request a dated quotation that specifies the vehicle configuration, taxes, delivery and any conversion work separately.

Can you drive it with a standard licence?
Reiter says the transporter has a permissible gross weight below 3.5 tonnes and can be driven with a Class B licence. The actual vehicle’s registered gross weight and your local licensing rules govern; confirm both for the purchased configuration and completed conversion rather than relying on the general statement.
Can you fit a bike rack to the tailgate?
Reiter says a tailgate-mounted bike rack is possible in principle, provided it does not obscure the rear lights. Its FAQ does not name an approved rack or establish that every rack advertised for a Sprinter fits the ORCA’s carbon body. Check the attachment method, clearances, load limits and visibility on the exact vehicle before buying or carrying bikes.
What should you confirm before ordering?
Because the published headline figures do not establish the delivered specification or the finished camper’s weight, use the quote and build sheet to resolve the practical questions:
- Which drive-head variant and transmission are actually available for the order?
- What is the delivered vehicle’s measured weight, permissible gross weight and payload before conversion?
- What will the completed camper weigh, and what payload remains with the intended occupants, water, batteries and travel gear?
- What interior height and usable layout dimensions will the finished build provide?
- What exactly does the quoted price include, and are taxes, delivery and conversion costs separate?
- Does the proposed bike rack fit the ORCA tailgate without blocking its lights?
- How will the finished vehicle be approved and registered under the relevant local rules?
Reiter’s official FAQ is the source for its planned drivetrain, price, licence, roof-load, floor and bike-rack statements. Its product page, camping page and news page contain the other manufacturer claims discussed above. The retrieved official material does not establish the ORCA’s actual fuel consumption, driving range, reliability, delivered price or the weight of a completed camper.
