Reimo’s Caddy Maxi Camp 2 4Motion is a conversion that could be specified with that powertrain; it is not a Volkswagen California. The range claim makes for an interesting comparison, but it does not establish that the Caddy camper is better overall—or that it will travel 75 miles on battery power in real-world camper use.
What the 75-mile claim actually measures
New Atlas reported in September 2024 that the Caddy eHybrid’s 19.7-kWh battery was estimated to deliver up to 122 km (75 miles) of electric driving per charge. That was an estimate for the Caddy eHybrid powertrain, not a measured result from a completed Camp 2 conversion. The report did not describe an independent range test, so the figure should not be treated as a guarantee of real-world range with camper equipment and occupants aboard. New Atlas’s 2024 report.
For comparison, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ UK product page currently lists up to 53 miles of WLTP electric range for the California eHybrid 4MOTION. That is a manufacturer figure for a particular UK-market model, while the Caddy number was reported as an estimate in 2024. The available information does not establish that the two figures use the same test cycle, configuration or conditions, so the 22-mile difference is not a like-for-like test result. What the Reimo Caddy Maxi Camp 2 offers
The Camp 2 is a 485-cm Caddy Maxi conversion designed around indoor living. Its passenger-side kitchen was reported with a single-burner gas or induction cooker, a sink, fresh- and waste-water canisters, and storage in the lower cabinets. A sleeper roof is available, and the reported configuration can carry five people and sleep two to four, depending on how it is equipped. Reimo also described the conversion as separable into components such as the kitchen block and sleeper roof, with accessories including diesel heating and a toilet. These are details reported in 2024, not confirmation of current options or prices. New Atlas’s 2024 report.

The story’s €69,932 price, including VAT, applied to the particular Caddy Maxi Camp 2 4Motion display vehicle shown at Düsseldorf’s Caravan Salon. It is a historical show-vehicle price, not a current quote or a general starting price.

“California” in the headline refers to Volkswagen’s separate Caddy California comparison, not to the Reimo conversion. Volkswagen’s California concept material describes a camper layout with a second sliding door, induction hob, awnings on both sides, a control display and a pop-up roof. Volkswagen’s UK brochure describes Beach Camper, Coast and Ocean California trims, with TDI, TSI and eHybrid powertrains. In that UK brochure, maximum towing capacity is listed as 1,570 kg for the eHybrid and up to 2,000 kg for TDI and TSI versions. The headline’s “outplays” is therefore a narrow editorial comparison about reported electric range, not a general verdict. The Caddy conversion’s reported indoor kitchen, its 485-cm length, sleeping arrangements, available four-wheel drive and the California’s trim and powertrain choices all matter to a buyer. The available figures do not provide a matched comparison of finished-vehicle range, footprint, accommodation, towing or price. Check current local availability and specification with a dealer or converter before making a purchase decision.
