Ram dealers reportedly previewed a planned North American midsize pickup at the NADA Show in Las Vegas in February 2026. One dealer, Ralph Mahalak Jr., called it a “game changer”—an opinion about a private preview, not proof of the truck’s capabilities or market prospects. Stellantis has announced that an all-new midsize truck is planned for assembly in Toledo, Ohio, with launch timing expected in 2028; the company’s announcement did not name it Dakota.
What did Ram dealers see, and who called it a “game changer”?
Automotive coverage reported that dealers got a private look at the planned North American truck during the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Show in Las Vegas. Carscoops attributed the “game changer” description to Ralph Mahalak Jr., an owner of six Stellantis dealerships. The reports provide no basis for treating that phrase as an official Ram claim or a measured verdict on the vehicle.
Autoblog also reported reactions from an unnamed Houston dealer manager, who described the truck as “aggressive” and “the right size.” The manager reportedly said it would be “a huge hit” if pricing were right. Those comments reflect dealer impressions; they do not establish customer demand, pricing or performance.
When is the new Ram Dakota expected to arrive?
Stellantis said on October 14, 2025, that an all-new midsize truck is assigned to Toledo Assembly Complex in Ohio, with launch timing expected in 2028. Its announcement describes the vehicle as a midsize truck but does not give a model name, retail launch month, ordering date or sale date. Later preview reports call the planned North American truck the Dakota. The 2028 timing is an expectation, not confirmation that the truck is already available to buy.

What are the North American Dakota’s specifications?
The preview reporting did not disclose confirmed North American specifications. It does not establish the truck’s price, trims, powertrain, towing or payload capacities, dimensions, fuel economy, equipment, ordering details or retail availability. Dealer reactions cannot fill in those gaps or show how the Dakota will compare with rivals.
Once specifications are published, a meaningful comparison with other midsize pickups will require like-for-like figures for price and trim availability, engine or electrification, towing and payload, cab and bed dimensions, off-road equipment, warranty, fuel economy, dealer availability and safety ratings.

Is the North American Dakota the same as the South American Dakota?
No. Autoblog’s preview coverage distinguishes the planned North American truck from a separate midsize Dakota launched in South America in October 2025, which it describes as based on the Changan F70. A shared name does not establish a shared platform, equipment or parts compatibility. Reports of possible design cues are not confirmation that the vehicles share technical components.
